RE: Well I tried Nvidia's

Well I tried Nvidia's latest & greatest:-( And for me it sucks!

The same to me at 364.47 drivers version, direct gpu memory failures on a GT 640, but not on the gtx 670...

The same described "performance". XD

btw , i wend back to 356.45 drivers version...and crunshing hopefully again next month, my funds have earlier depleded this month as i thought.

ok, the memory failures

ok, the memory failures depended on PCIe clockings, the mainboard always swapping between pcie 1.1 and 2.0 , then the failures happen, set it to 2.0 , and no more failures.

RE: ... Dunno what they

The only information I got from EVGA Service is the following, Dominik Ungermann wrote (I tried to translate):

I think that the poor performance in BOINC applications is caused by the architecture of the RAM controller. Although newer NVIDIA GPUs support CUDA, they have been designed primarily for gaming. The RAM controller of Maxwell GPUs (900 series) work compared to earlier generations differently. The mapping of the data for the RAM has been in demand as well as in the execution changed what in the gaming area a 30% higher efficiency at the same power means. Unfortunately, this technology is for calculations as you operate quite unhelpful and therefore includes the mediocre results from the way they are presented. Fine-tuning by the software, the driver and the clock rates of Vram could help slightly raising performance but unfortunately considers this in an area that is hardly worth mentioning.

In the various forums is this problem much discussed and tested, also by officials. Colleagues of Seti are very eager on optimizing their software, but as I can see so they struggle with the same problems. In general, this is again because the software is only the "executive power" and the programmers are limited as well by programming OpenGL/CL, not to mention that they can influence the operation of the RAM controller in any way.

If the computer will be used exclusively for BOINC calculations a (used) high-end card of the 700 generation (Kepler architecture) would probably be a more effective "weapon".

And later on he informed that EVGA accepts 3 years guarantee on Second Hand GKs too even if they were bought by a subsequent purchaser: If a original bill is present beginning from date of purchasing, otherwise from date when the GK left EVGA.

Anyone who could tested

Anyone who could tested drivers version 364.51 ? Whatever the release notes says, it could not be installed on Windows 7 64-bit.

I have a guess, i see about the 32-bit drivers.

They seems to be both 32-bit drivers, what a mess...

It were on the german drivers, now i am forced to download the english (US)
drivers an see.

Ok, on the newest drivers 25%

Bad

Bad news:

https://developer.nvidia.com/vulkan-driver

The old drivers are gone, there only the WHQL drivers left.

The WHQL drivers have a 25% loss in cpu time.

At this time i got no trustable download source to tell.

I had to roll back twice due

I had to roll back twice due to the new glitched drivers this week.

GOOD; NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 (2048MB) driver: 362.00 OpenCL: 1.2

  • BAD - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 (2048MB) driver:

364.51 OpenCL: 1.2 BAD - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 (2048MB) driver: 364.47 OpenCL: 1.2

Life's short; make fun of it!
