Make a couple of Windows shortcuts "Run As" to your desktop.
Add %windir%\\system32\\cmd.exe /k net stop boinc to it. That will stop the BOINC client when you want it to.
Additional other commands are: %windir%\\system32\\cmd.exe /k net start boinc (start BOINC) %windir%\\system32\\cmd.exe /k net pause boinc (pause BOINC) %windir%\\system32\\cmd.exe /k net resume boinc (resume BOINC)
Sorry, I don't follow. I know how to make a shortcut to an existing document or program, but not an independent one. Do you mean I should create a text file somewhere containing one of the above command-lines, and then make a shortcut to that?
No, just make a shortcut. Rightclick anywhere on a free space on your desktop, choose New, Shortcut. In the window that then opens, fill in either of the 4 options. Click Next, then give it a name. Click Finish.
And I prefer this above finding the Services window (or Start->Run, Services.msc {enter}) and then finding the BOINC service, needing to rightclick it to start/stop it. These shortcuts, once made, stop and start the service with one click.
