Is there a problem?? Finally Seti has stablized and getting lots of throughput but now I have nothing from Einstein.

You are most likely making up time owed to SETI. Can you look in your logs and see if it says something like "requesting 0 seconds of work"? That would point to a Long Term Debt issue.

Jim,

Boinc has been ignoring Seti's workshare and doing Einstein instead for some time due to server outage, incurring a debt to Seti, so now it's "payback" time. Best advice, unless you are seeing unusual warning or error messages, is to relax, kick back, and let it work. A normal balance will arrive when inter-project debts are evened-out.

Regards,

Michael

I have a similar problem. On Dec 14 I got the following messages, and since then, no work from Einstein. But Seti downloads work just fine. I am running only Seti and Einstein on my PC.

I tried doing a reset to the Einstein project, but nothing changed.

PLEASE do not use "reset" unless it's the last resort... In this specific case, it either has done nothing, or has complicated your problem by shifting Long Term Debts around. (Zeroing the debt for Einstein, which could make it _less_ likely to get work.)

This is telling you the problem. Whatever SETI work you have on your system is in danger of not finishing before deadline, you are already in "Earliest Deadline First" mode, and no additional work from any project is going to be allowed until that is resolved.

It is possible that you are in EDF mode "incorrectly", but in order to determine that, we need a bit more information. Your cache size, how many WUs from SETI you have in your "Work" tab, and the deadlines for each. It also helps if you quit BOINC completely (file/exit if you are on Windows), then relaunch BOINC Manager, give it a minute to get going, then copy _all_ of the messages from the Messages tab and paste them here.

I restarted BOINC. These are the messages at startup.
I could not copy/paste from the WORK tab.
I currently have 14 WU from Seti. Each will take about 5 hours on my PC.
The earliest deadline is 1/7/2006 1:21pm.
I have asked for a 3 day supply of work, and that is how long it should take to finish these WU.

Two projects and a 3-day

Two projects and a 3-day cache should not be a problem... the only remaining figures I can think of that would have any effect are the "CPU efficiency" and "Result Duration Correction Factor", both of which are shown on "Your Accounts", "View computers". Both of these _should_ be somewhere "close" to 1. Normally they will both be slightly under 1. If the efficiency is _way_ under 1, say 0.5 or less, or the DCF is above 2, there could be a problem.

I don't think the problem is debt-related, the message indicates it's deadline related - but the startup messages don't indicate that your computer is overcommitted. I'm lost, unless it's the figures above. If those are off, we can edit your client_state.xml file to correct them.

Whatever the problem was, it corrected itself today.

I rebooted my PC, and when BOINC came up, it downloaded 3 days worth of work from Einstein and started to run it. Now it looks like its running as it should.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this.

Must have been a debt problem after all, or just an "overload" of SETI work on hand (or it thought there was). Glad it's running now!

I'm also not receiving work

I'm also not receiving work from Eistein, but I think mine is a time debt issue. A few days ago when I increased my work queue to 3 days instead of .5 days Rosetta was the first to respond and sent me about 30 work units while the other projects only sent me 2-3 (Even though SETI is my largest resource share).

Now only SETI is accepting new work, see below:

Would someone with more experience confirm my suspicion please? I'd hate to run around for days trying to get more Einstein work if it is working properly right now.

The line I bolded indicates that Einstein doesn't want any new work at the moment.

If you are interested in your LTD/STD numbers, you can install a little program that works with BOINC called BOINC DebtView.

I use it to monitor my debt values and it was really easy to install and use.

Most of the time the best way to deal with BOINC and schedulling is to let it do its own thing. When the numbers are favorable, it will dl new work.

Hope this answers your question.
