No work from E@H

While Seti was having problems last month, E@H was providing all my work units. Now they're back up and running and my E@H downloads have stopped. Got 2000+ pending credits (some going back to 15 May) but no credited work and no new work units downloaded. I used to be able to download 10+ jobs by stopping all work and refreshing, but that doesn't work anymore. Normally I would only do that when I knew server work was going to be done and I wanted some buffer to keep working until new units could be downloaded. But now -- nothing! What gives?

No work from E@H

Maybe because the WUs are so huge? They can take a day and more even on a reasonably fast system, depending on which WU size you get.

Sorry, Annika, but I think

Sorry, Annika, but I think you misunderstood: I'm not getting ANY work units any more. The new ones usually run 40 to 50 hours - already had bunches of those. But now I'm not getting anything new to work on.

Okay, sorry. I thought you

Okay, sorry. I thought you weren't getting as much as you intended. Not getting any WUs is strange indeed. I was able to download normally yesterday afternoon and haven't needed new ones since then, so I have no idea if sth is wrong there.

Hi Annika!

Could this be "debt" related? BOINC keeps track of the actual work share between projects, and while SETI was down for some time, many people got more Einstein units than originally allocated to the project by the resource share the user selected. E.g. If you want to split 50/50 between SETI and Einstein, but SETI can't deliver for a while, Einstein will get 100%. Once Seti is back, BOINC tries to level the score by giving precedence to SETI for a while.

Definitely sounds debt

Definitely sounds debt related.

You can open up client_state.xml and look for in both the Seti and Einstein sections.

Or you can check them online here.

Positive LTD means that a project is owed time. Negative LTD means that a project owes time to other projects.

Oh well, okay. I'm quite sure

Oh well, okay. I'm quite sure you two are right. I thought SETI was still down and the box was idling. If it's just back from an outage, not getting WUs for the second project would indeed be fairly normal.

Well, the LTD for E@H is a

Well, the LTD for E@H is a minus (ca. -227445) and for S@H a plus (227445) - figures aren't 100% accurate, just an example -- that should even them out to 0. STD is also at 0. I've stopped and restarted BOINC several times, and rebooted both PCs, but I'm still not getting any new work. The overall average of completed work units remains around 60% SETI and 40% Einstein.

With Seti's recent problems, you crunched more than your fair share of E@H (as determined by your resource share). So now the debt is being paid back to Seti. If your LTD for E@H is -227445, that's roughly 63 hours. So that 63 hours is owed back to Seti. I bet you'll see more E@H downloaded in the next 3 or 4 days.

Agreed, but I think the LTD

Agreed, but I think the LTD owed is more like 126 hours (due to the normalization BOINC does on the debt values), so the run on SAH exclusively might be more like a week or so.

Also, the online DV is kind of interesting, but I don't think it's a very good idea to be uploading your client_state files to a third party site as a general principle. Especially when it's so easy to check yourself from any browser or text editor.
