Topic 190602

I am also a classic retread and to be honest I a not crazy about Boinc. I ended up with Einstein because I have been unable to get to the SETI servor. It is permanently "temporarily" unavailable. On the other hand the system may be up and running and I just don't know what I am doing. At any rate I am unable to get any new work and the screen comes up BOINC idle.

NO NEW WORK

What are you talking about when you get no work? Seti or Einstein?
Can you please leave behind:
a) BOINC version.
b) Your OS.
c) The last 20 or so messages from your Messages tab in Boinc Manager.
d) If you are attached to other projects, and if so, if they have work?

HELLO AGELESS, I am

HELLO AGELESS,

I am not getting work with Einstein and I have been unable to attach to SETI. The BOINC version I have is the 10MB version. I am using XP. The last message I had indicated that I had not sent any results or requested work

Please post the last 20

Please post the last 20 messages from the Messages tab in Boinc Manager.

To do so, open Boinc Manager.
Go to Messages tab.
Click at the top message once, then while holding the Shift button, click on the bottom showing message.
Click on the button "Copy selected messages"

Then post them here.

That'll be somewhat more than 20 messages, but that's ok.

(thanks Michael. I got that already. The "10 MB version" ;))

This would suggest that your computer still has work (from another project). Or that you put the project to No New Work.

When you open Boinc Manager, Work tab, is there any work in there?
- If there is, what is it from?

If there isn't, go to the Projects tab.
What does the Status behind the Einstein project say?

Options:
Select the Einstein project by clicking on it. Now just look to the left side, all the buttons.

- Is there a button called "Allow new work"? If there is, please click it. It will change to "No new work".

- Is there a button called "Resume" perhaps? If there is, click that one. It should change to "Suspend".

Else please go to General Preferences site. What is the setting behind "Connect to network about every" ?? If it is 0.1 days, then please try to set it to 1 for now.
Save the site with the button at the bottom.

Then open Boinc Manager again, Projects tab, select the Einstein project and press the Update button.

If you aren't sure you are attached to Seti and/or want help on how to attach to Seti, please go to the Seti help desk forums. We can help you there. (or I can help you here, but it's a bit weird to help on attaching to Seti on the Einstein forums. Besides, help one and everyone comes here. ;))

Looks like Boinc is knocking on the wrong Seti door.

Looks like Boinc is knocking on the wrong Seti door.

Should it look more like this, without the 500 and "Couldn't connect" errors?
(And if you know what caused those, I wouldn't mind an answer 8-)

I could go try to explain it

Message 24100 in response to message 24099

I could go try to explain it again, but am a bit out of time. So read this thread, which will provide a lot of answers.
