Why thank you Tom.  I'll let

Why thank you Tom.  I'll let one loose soon as a thank you to the O.F.A.!

My bored mother is buried in...  OH!  Excuse me, my dyslexia is setting in.

My aged Sabertooth X58 MB is sitting in my closet with it's DDR3 RAM and 990X CPU.  Which MB are you referring to?

You have multiple mothers?

I managed to get my ASRock

I managed to get my ASRock X570 Taichi resurrected to the point where a gtx 1080 has been recognized and it running in the first long slot.  It is mostly devoted to Universe@Home at this time.

However, the Over Clocking of the CPU doesn't provide a "static" multiplier.  Apparently by adding to the maximum MHz setting (doesn't have a multiplier) you can lift the CPU MHz cap.  Mine is now capped at 4.1 MHz.

No, but I once had a A.K.C. Dachshund with multiple mothers.

I don't think I studied enough biology to work out what that implies.

No working computer part is discarded here.  Except rust spinners, they're now banned.  All for sale on Ebay.

If I buy a 2 socket EPYC

If I buy a 2 socket EPYC motherboard will it boot with 1 CPU from the p series?

I believe I have a 7401p.

what board are you looking at?

Some people say that you can use just one CPU, but I'm not sure you can use a "P" CPU since these are only designed for single socket systems. I've looked on a few dual socket EPYC boards (asrock rack, and Gigabyte) and the P skus are not on their supported CPUs lists. The Supermicro H11DSi is probably the most common dual socket EPYC board (I have one), but Supermicro doesnt seem to have a defined CPU support list. they only have the more vague "EPYC 7001/7002 series" comment.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/154898581133 at $568 + s/h.

The reason I am wondering is because it is less than a $100 (new) more than the AsRock Rack EPYCD8-2T (currently $506) that we dote on.  And it looks to me like the most gpus I am likely to run is 5 (if I include a gtx 1080 in the load).

This would allow me to get an EPYC back online.  And give me serious a cpu processing upgrade path in the future.

Just got reading STH that the only gotcha is the same one I have run into on an Intel dual socket board.  Not all of the Pcie slots are active because they are split between two cpus.

Another possible choice if I assume the 5 gpu max would be a Supermicro H11SSL-i REV 2.0 which would support any version 1/2 upgrade I wanted.  And certainly would be the cheapest (and slowest to arrive?) choice at $394 + s/h.
