It is probable that a lot of people have noticed the latest ARM splash of "Windows on Arm".

A robust new CPU competitive with the Apple M series of systems.

So there are two questions I have.

  1. Just how productive would such a system be for what we do?
  2. How long will it take to convert Windows 86 apps to Windows ARM apps?

What are your questions and comments?

Apple is using a SOC design which is giving it great advantages when it comes to latency, but for projects like this raw computing power is needed. Especially GPU power where Apple M is extremely weak since you can't use dedicates GPUs on their architecture.

So if ARM on Windows is going to be productive or not will depend on GPU support.

Until then in my observation modern AMD CPUs compete very well with Apple M, under load, idyle Apples power management is way better. But if you are on this project your hardware is not going to be idyle.

I wonder if you could use the OCU ports on Epyc motherboards with this?

It sure would be cooler but probably noisier as well. I was checking their refurbished section and they have an I7-11??? 8/16 core box with Windows 11 Pro for $299, no need to plug it into your Epyc that way.

Point.  But in my case the goal would be to run more gpus on a single motherboard.

You did read this, correct?

"Note that you’ll also need to connect an ATX or SFX power supply, as the DEG1 doesn’t include one."

I don't see why not, as long as you use one GPU per OCU port on your EPYC system.  You'd need to read the spec sheet on your MB and also the MINISFORUM DEG1 first though.

For $100 as long as it's returnable you should get one and see how it works for a few days and then send it back if it doesn't meet your expectations.
