A robust new CPU competitive with the Apple M series of systems.
Just how productive would such a system be for what we do?
Apple is using a SOC design which is giving it great advantages when it comes to latency, but for projects like this raw computing power is needed. Especially GPU power where Apple M is extremely weak since you can't use dedicates GPUs on their architecture.
So if ARM on Windows is going to be productive or not will depend on GPU support.
Until then in my observation modern AMD CPUs compete very well with Apple M, under load, idyle Apples power management is way better. But if you are on this project your hardware is not going to be idyle.
I wonder if you could use the OCU ports on Epyc motherboards with this?
It sure would be cooler but probably noisier as well. I was checking their refurbished section and they have an I7-11??? 8/16 core box with Windows 11 Pro for $299, no need to plug it into your Epyc that way.

I don't see why not, as long as you use one GPU per OCU port on your EPYC system. You'd need to read the spec sheet on your MB and also the MINISFORUM DEG1 first though.

For $100 as long as it's returnable you should get one and see how it works for a few days and then send it back if it doesn't meet your expectations.
I also saw this "new" feature and think it's great. The question remains how much power the rtx 50x0 series will need. Was this a move from mb makers to reduce the power going through the cable OR will the gpus need so much additional power that they didn't want to push it through the cable? Maybe a little of both.
Could you fully power a 200w gpu without any cord connected to it? How much heat will be generated at that pcie connection if you are pushing ~200w through it?

I finally got an Epyc 7d12

I finally got an Epyc 7d12 cpu to boot on an AsRock Epycd8 motherboard.
These cpus apparently only have 4 memory channels.
The ones it recognizes on the Epycd8 MB are the outside 2 slots on either side of the cpu socket. Not the inside 2 slots.
