I have been wondering. If you took a ASR epyc mb with 7 GPU slots and matched it with a low-end 8c/16t epyc CPU. Would you have enough CPU power to push all 7 rtx 3080 ti's?

if you run only GPU work, with GPU tasks that only run 1 thread per task, then yes it will be fine.

but if you complicate things by trying to run a CPU project at the same time, or trying to run multiple tasks per GPU such that you are running more tasks than you have threads, or trying to run GPUGRID Python on all the GPUs or something, then you will likely have issues.

you need to understand the limits of building a system like that. stick to the script and don't try to reinvent the wheel.

Looks like something designed to fit inside a mobile phone.  I prefer full sized equipment.

I use tape everywhere, including on mains electricity.  It's very versatile.

If this page takes an hour to load, reduce posts per page to 20 in your settings, then the tinpot 486 Einstein uses can handle it.

Clearly I was exaggerating.  The point is I wouldn't buy a MB which limits the memory, and has so few PCI-E slots, and so close together.  I guess it would do if you weren't planning on a multi GPU system, or running memory hogs like LHC.  But if you're going for one of those monster CPUs, you want lots of connections!  What's the obsession with compactness with a system that powerful?

I just posted the review because it was an interesting niche mb using the latest epyc release.

96 cores in a single x86-64 socket.

I have previously been fascinated by 4 socket motherboards from Intel. At that time and place they had relatively huge thread counts. 

And some of those 128 core/socket ARM servers are not to be sneezed at either.

I've never seen a 4 socket motherboard, do you have a good example?

I was about to say there are 128 core machines, but you actually meant 96 cores not threads, so 192 threads!  Sulk.  I have 24 threads (on each of 4 machines).  I just call threads cores, since they behave like them and if you don't use HT you miss out on a third of the speed.

4 times faster than my Ryzen 9, but 8 times as many cores.  So half speed cores.  Good for Boinc, but not good for interacting with or playing games, or running Boinc tasks which need done quickly (as I've not heard of a Boinc task taking more than 16 cores).  Also not good for a GPU task which needs a fast single core to assist.

$3000 is a bit much for a CPU though.

I guess I have now answered

I guess I have now answered the "burning" question of if you can run 4 air-cooled gpus "cheek and jowl" on an MSI Meg Godlike x570 motherboard.

Replicated the layout on an Epyc MB that had 4 x16 slots available for double wide gpus.

Not without overheating them.  So I would be looking at water-cooling or a mining frame to get that to "work".

Or the Epyc system, for that matter.

Even a single gap isn't

Even a single gap isn't perfect for fan intake.  I find you need at least 1-2 inches gap for a fan to work efficiently.  I believe a single gap in PCI-E is only 2/3rd of an inch.
