Dear All,

My boinc manager has behaved oddly for several days. I looked into client_state.xml and found the following:

0.998919
0.999993
0.010772
0.710136
1172707174.234375

got inexplicably low, which stops boinc manager from getting several tasks and dividing time between them - it is running whatever task it gets to the end as it believes it can't finish it in time.

Note that the 0.010772 value has not changed at all in 3 days, whereas boinc had been running work units 24hrs a day every day. Is there a way to restore this parameter? My guess 0.90 should be quite appropriate.

Cheers,
Igor

Ok, the first thing to make sure of is the general pref to 'Do work while the computer is in use' is set to yes for the venue you run on.

If so, then all you have to do is shut down BOINC and edit the active_frac parameter to 0.900000, save it, and then restart BOINC.

Keep in mind the functions which control the updating of these parameters are designed such that changes which would indicate slower performance happen pretty fast, while changes which indicate better performance are applied much more gradually.

This is so a transient condition is less likely to result in the host overcommiting itself with regard to requested work. The downside is a transient downward event means it takes quite a while for the parameter to return to its steady state value (assuming of course nothing really changed as far as the host is concerned).

HTH,

Alinator
