I notice that with newer versions of BOINC (>= 58.15) that now there is a lot more info about the CPU being placed in the log, and this difference between versions of BOINC seems to be the reason why I cannot merge an earlier set of runs on this machine, properly brought to a conclusion and detached, with a later set of runs on this same machine.
In the earlier version (5.4.9) of BOINC this CPU is ID'ed as:
AuthenticAMD
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+
In the later version of BOINC (5.8.16) this CPU is ID'ed as:
AuthenticAMD
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+ [Family 15 Model 35 Stepping 2][fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush mmx fxsr sse sse2 ht syscall nx mmxext fxsr_opt lm 3dnowext 3dnow pni lahf_lm cmp_legacy]
Not a huge problem, but untidy.
Thanks.

'Merge Machine' criteria could be made less harsh

In newer versions the CPU extensions are going to be a separate field. This was added quickly, because a couple of projects wanted to be able to send more optimized applications to systems. BOINC is an ongoing project, and will take many forms throughout the years.
