I've got a celeronM laptop that's going to be getting an HD wipe in the very near future. The einstien WUs it's crunching now are ~36hrs long, so I'd like to transition it to something a bit shorter before taking it down. I haven't been paying much attention to other projects though so I'm not sure which projects are still running WUs that will complete in an hour or two on a fairly modest machine. Could anyone give me a few pointers?

Looking for a project with short WUs

How about Rosetta? The work unit times are completely up to the user!

uFluids and PrimeGrid have

uFluids and PrimeGrid have very short WUs. Only a minute or two each.

QMC@Home wu's are typically

QMC@Home wu's are typically about 2 hours, but can vary up to 6
Malariacontrol wu's are about 1 hour, their map predictor wus are about 5 minutes
Spinhenge@Home wu's are 1 hour or 1:45

Also check out the Lattice Project and SIMAP, both have wu's in the 30 minute range, but only sporadically.

I would heartily recommend

I would heartily recommend Rosetta as well with no quorum's, you can also set your own crunch times in preferences which is a plus, eg. 3 hr WU, 4 hr, etc.. Although for short crunch times and great credits I would also like to mention Riesel Sieve, Riesel Sieve also runs great on the Athlon core boxes.

Just as we all thought that of QMC, I've gotten a bunch of of WU's that are taking over 12 hours on a AMD 5600+ X2.

QMC has nominated User of the

QMC has nominated User of the Day the Dalai Lama, Team Free Tibet. Maybe he can give me some advice on how to obtain QMC WUs, I don't receive them any more. But their were long running units on my poor PII, crunching happily both SETI and Einstein.

Wouldn't the Dalai Lama's advice be more on par with the spiritual rather than the temporal? ;P If you don't mind a suggestion from this lowly supplicant... try putting the other projects on no new work and when the work queues down, BOINC should start a download from QMC.

I agree, but if I got some spiritual advice from the Dalai Lama the Pope would not be so glad. For the rest of your advice, I have already tried it. But now I am leaving BOINC to manage it. My shares are Einstein 300, SETI and QMC 100. But while SETI regularly sends me small WUs (from 30 to 40 hours), QMC does not.
