BOINC communicates to the Einstein server but fails when I try to log in with my account or even if I try to create a new account. Something is wrong and Einstein isn't going to get a whole lot of computing time from me (or anybody else for that matter) this way.

Could you post the last 20 orso messages from your Messages tab here, please?
Else try this:
Please go to Your Account (Bookmark the place), then go to Change Password.
Type in a password you like, with a minimum of 6 characters, then type it again.
Then press the Change Password button at the bottom.
Open Boinc Manager, Projects, Attach to Project, type in (or copy&paste) http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu in the first window's box.
Press Next.
Select Use Existing Account.
Type in your email address (same as which you used to register your account with)
Type in the newly set password.
Press Next.
