I'm wondering if there's a code logic problem that the calculations are being done twice.

No such problem. There would have to be literally dozens of threads over the last few months documenting this and with the reasons explained. Please do a search for wine+linux+client in thread titles and you'll get plenty of info.
Please learn to use the force ..errhhh.. search people :).
I saw a post on the Orbit@Home message board and decided to give Knoppix a try. While I have been using Windows since version 1.0 (boy - it was laughable even for its time...)and used to work on IBM VM and other mainframe operating systems I found the Knoppix OS to be quite a challenge. Learning Unix is not the problem as you can search the web for terminology and other users fixes (such as running Boincvew under wine - wine is an impressive looking app that will [someday] give users an easy transition from MS to Linux), I really could not get it to work.
I have to agree with the others posting in these forums that the Linux version of the Einstein program is way too slow to be an effective competitor. Linux users who are serious anout competing with Microsoft (and I know this is my first baby steps into Linux to try only Boinc and Seti&Einsein distributes) are really gonna have their work cut out for them.
Now to be fair the Seti program actually appeared to gain some speed in Knoppix but it was nowhere near as fast as the slowdown in Einstein was. A casual user trying Linux for the first time would not be impressed by Linux runnning the same app on the same machine at least 2 or 3 times slower.
While I believe myself to not be a casual user I am impressed by how the Linux community is giving MS a run for its money. Keep up the good fight you guys...
Nah, just run the 'nix client using Microsoft's Services For Unix.
that would work if we wanted to run the linux client on a windows box, but it is the win client we want to run on a linux box - ie that is a solution to the opposite problem.

I mean a FAQ acknowledging that the Win app at present seems more efficient and no it isn't a bug and yes if it still bothers you use Wine.
