Boinc ver linux/x86 4.27 is easy to set up and run on Fedora RC3X64. However the manager states it will take about 22 hours to run a work task rather than about 6 hours for windows XP. Is this a bug or is the program not optimized for 64 bit operation, or are there some set up parameters that can be optimized.

linux 4.27 runs 4 times slower than winxp

1. For a reason yet unknown we couldn't get gcc to compile code that runs as fast as what we get with MSVC. The difference is roughly a factor of 2. This currently applies to all non-Windows architectures. It has been reported to be faster to run the Windows client on Wine than to use the native Linux one.

2. The App is not optimized for 64Bit CPUs, neither the code nor the compilation process.

Both applies to the E@H Application only, I don't know about the 4.27 BOINC client yet.

Hallo, IMHO running under

Hallo,

IMHO running under Linux is waste of time; after a couple of approved and credited WU's,all my recent WU's are credited 0 again.
Combine this with the slow running om all platforms but Windows, I decided to install wine also, plse have a look at the follwing site about dll's and installsheild issue's and setup will be easy.

http://frankscorner.org/index.php?p=ishield

Plse use the 4.19 version for windows and run 'nice wine boinc_cli.exe -return_results_immediately -allow_remote_gui_rpc'
Do not forget to export the warnings as follows:
export WINEDEBUG="err-all,warn-all,fixme-all,trace-all"
You can have the screensaver then by telnetting to port 31416

Results so far are good for most people,

Hopefully there will be a better native solution for specific nonWin platforms

I'm running E@H on linux, and

I'm running E@H on linux, and so far no invalid results, while my other windows computer has had several. I don't feel like screwing with wine so i'm just going to stick with it and wait patiently.
