My computer, Dell 8600 laptop, is dedicating up to 100% of the processor time to the program and it makes the laptop run too hot. I have downloaded the utility program but have no idea how to set it up. Does anyone know where or how I use resedit? Could someone post step-by-step instructions on how to do this? I would need very basic instructions because I am really a Mac person but am now living in the windows world!

AFAIK, resedit is used to edit or extract files from resource files like dll's and exe files.
A nice program to control max CPU usage and prevent overheat is ThreadMaster. You can download the latest version from here.
If you mean regedit, this is a program called registy editor that is part of Windows and that you can find under the folder Windows. DO NOT USE IT IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING and make a backup of your registry files because if you want to use it's there that are the most important informations of Windows inside.

If you run Norton WinDoctor on a regular basis you will see that it gets corrupted over time as windows runs. Even it you don't seem to do anything but run a single application (like BOINC) and don't install new programs ...
