It does not appear that I have preferences when I have only Einstein project. I want it to work only if the screen saver works, but I failed to find the setting/prefrences for this, so I suspended the task.
AT the present it uses CP time no matter what I am or not doing

Read this from the FAQ's. But, you should understand that BOINC applications run at the lowest priority, so Einstein really isn't running when you are using the computer. It is only using cycles that would otherwise be wasted.

Open your BOINC Manager. Select the Projects tab. Highlight Einstein@Home and then select the Your account button on the left (you'll need to have internet access BTW). When the page opens up, look again to the left under the Preferences heading for General Preferences and select View or edit. When the page opens up, scroll to the bottom and select Edit preferences. Under Processor usage look 2 lines down to "Do work while computer is in use" and select No. The next line below will be "Do work only after computer is idle for" and enter an appropriate time frame like 1 or 5 minutes for example.

This will cause BOINC to only allow applications (such as Einstein@Home) to work only when the computer is not in use and has been idle for "X" amount of time.

Hi, Thanks for the

Message 48558 in response to message 48555

Hi, Thanks for the information. I actully did that before I sent my message. When I said no to the "Do work while computer is in use" and then came out of the BONIC Manager, and then looked at the projects, I realised that it is still processing the Job. Then I got to conclusion that anytime that I am not typing probably it does use the CPU cycles, eventhough I set the idle time to 10 Minutes. I will try again in case I have made a mistake and report back,
Regards,

Message 48559 in response to message 48558

I checked again and I have
"Do work while computer is in use"=NO
"Do work only after computer is idle for"=10 Mins
I resumed two of the tasks,
They started to progress and get CPU time,
I openned a word document and while I was typing the progress and CPU time was increasing. Which means that the setting in the general prefrences does not work.
So, either the program works the way I described, or Microsoft VISTA, RC1 is to blame, or the Intel Core 2 Duo or Hardware does it or operator is missing something. I appreciate if you do the same on your Unix/XP/Linux/Mac, with my setting and trying to look at two windows,

Regards,

I rebooted the PC checkd aagain, the setting was the same, I

hi,
it appears that it is ok now. Won't do anything until 10 minutes passed the idle state, thanks

I forgot to add to my earlier post to hit the Update button for the project in the Work tab. That would've forced BOINC to communicate with Einstein and implement the new settings instead of (which is what I believe happened) having to wait until it updated itself. Oops. Glad it's running how you want it to now.
