Topic 213247

Just installed BOINC on a new computer and having problem assigning a project.  Says invalid password and doesn't provide a means to reenter.  Have deleted BOINC using both BOINC Install system and Microsoft's uninstall system;  both times have deleted the BOINC Data folder; then reinstalled BOINC;  Same reported error- invalid Password.  Any idea's?

Had installed BOINC previously semi successfully.   Could assign projects while did not associate this computer with my other PC's and tried to associate via my BOINC Account sub system unsuccessfully.  So I started over running into this problem.  Have been using remember this sign in option (Email address and password) and think this is my problem now - Invalid password.

Need more info let me know as I'm not too familiar with the details of the BOINC system.

Thanks for your assistance and let's keep processing this data for the BOINC Project community.

Chuck,

You are obviously able to log into the Web site in order to post to the forums. The same username (which is an email address) and password should be used when attaching your BOINC client to our E@H project.

If you are not using a email/password to sign into the Web site, then please let me know how you are accessing the Web site?

I'm able to do the things you

I'm able to do the things you mentioned and I always use the password & Email address used to log into this forum.  The problem I think is  perhaps the  Email address and password used when I 1st entered for this new PC.  This entry as you know does not show one what was entered rather depends upon a double entry.  This approach has a major flaw - what happens when the capital lock is on and one does not realize this nor wants it on?  One goes on their merry way never realizing this fact until it is too late.

Trust this answer your questions and if not let me know & I'll respond.

Thanks for your input and rapid response.

If this hasn't been resolved

If this hasn't been resolved then open Boinc Manager on the computer your having problems with and check under the "Projects" tab, if Einstein@home is listed there then highlight it by clicking on it. Then on the left click the "Remove" button and confirm.
Once Einstein@home is gone then look at the menus up top and select "Tools -> Add Project", that should get you a dialog where you can add a project, just select Einstein@home from the available projects and then fill in your username and password (the correct ones used to log in to the forum) and add the project. Everything should work after that.

Tried the above approach

Tried the above approach without success.  Found no Einstein At Home Project listed so proceeded to step 2.  This is where I find the invalid password message.  Used the entry TOOL and then add project sub entry where upon the response received - Invalid password message.

I tried an other approach today without success.  Do not believe the system to hold sign on and passwords is Microsoft's rather think it's FireFox my browser software.  So today I removed both the BOINC and FIREFOX Systems and started over.  I reinstalled both and tried adding a project as outlined above.  Behold I received the same error message - Invalid Password.

I also ran PCMATICS between the removal and reinstall of the systems in hopes it might find a Registry problem and correct.  It found nothing.  My saved sign on and password must be save some where on my PC while I have no idea where.  Since I found no file that might hold this information., I thought might be stored in Registry and tried PCMATICS to locate and remove.  Did not happen.

Any further thoughts on how I may resolve this problem short of a reinstall of the OS?

If you are not running any

If you are not running any other projects on that computer, why don't you try to remove BOINC all together. First you need to find and remove the BOINC folder. Move it to the trash and delete it. Uninstall BOINC.  Then restart your computer. If you have something like CClean, then run it.   Once that's done, download the BOINC installer and reinstall.  Hopefully that will clean out any stuck items that might be keeping you from seeing Einstein@home in the add project. Good luck

Tried all suggestions without

Tried all suggestions without success.  The problem was resolved by installing Windows again.

Thanks to all who helped me taking their time to respond to my problem.  The professionals that are part of the Einstein at home group are terrific.  Thanks again.
