Never heard about it with ice cream. Wouldn't it have to be pretty well melted?

Just melted enough where you can mix the Nestle's Quik powder around a little...I like it better than regular chocolate ice cream...Or you can just spoon some on top of the ice cream and let it kinda soak in a little...It's good stuff!

I was saddest to see that a certain individual who was overtly and happily a racist was never actively modded in the "other" boards. In fact, his supporters were ignored as well. This person's posts were seen and ignored. It was outrageous. He also invited people to link to his blog where he described individuals as ni*lets and ni**ers. This link was never removed. If any action was ever taken against this individual, it was never publicised. One would think that a message from the authorities to the general posting public expressing their disaproval and censure of such individuals would be a given. None was ever seen.

When a person makes an expressed wish to be the leader of the KKK(!!!!) on a forum and it is not actively and agressively addressed as unacceptable, one must wonder as to the morals, convictions or courage of those moderators. I was shocked to see it and was outraged to see it go unaddressed. This person was allowed to continue to post and express his hateful beliefs on that forum.

If that person has been ejected from those boards and it was done "quietly" I must wonder who's sensibilities were intended to be protected.

I would anticipate on these boards that such an offender would be aggressively and vociferously ejected with details of his offense loudly announced.

For this reason I remain absent from SETI's fora and will do so until an apology is issued. I do not anticipate that any such apology will ever be published. Until then, SETI will get no more of my spare cycles. Nor any of the cycles of my dedicated machines.

Outraged it needed to come to such a plain statement of facts,

Jim

And, no, "Leave it in the past and move on" is not good enough in such a case. Ignored bigotry is allowed bigotry. There can be no debate against this assertion.

Yes.
Certainly the line that "I'll say what I like ( free speech or whatever ) so if you don't like it too bad - and why aren't you ignoring me?" will fly like a lead balloon with my policy style.
I see no real difficulty with being overt in the process of censure - it does discourage likeminded potential transgressors ( there's a French phrase hovering here somewhere ).
I also see no difficulty with overtly discussing such a policy either.
Cheers, Mike.

( edit ) I see you're a 'fora' man too. We were discussing that on another thread - it depends on your dictionary it seems. :-)

Perhaps we should move this discussion to another thread, but since it was raised here...
A point of discussion for curiosity sake.
What do we think the reason could be that no action was taken?

Could it be that the issue was not raised? Everyone thought somebody else would do it?
Could it be that the issue was not raised to the correct group responsible? Who would that be? Project Admins, SSL IT Dept, UCB Administration?
Could it be the issue was raised, but that a 'no action' decision was taken due to possible 'free speech' rights violations by UCB?

What could be the reason?

Disclaimer:
I'm not trying to scratch open old wounds or invite posting of flames or hate against the person involved. Let's leave that over there. Just curious as to reasons why UCB allowed it to happen unopposed.

This issue was raised by several Seti members and their posts are now buried in a deleted thread
