RE: Guess what? On my dual

Guess what? On my dual Opteron 280 running Linux, claimed credit went from about 14.8 CS/hour to 25.3 CS/hour for long WUs!

You are talking about claimed credit as opposed to granted credit. They should be vastly different things as I imagine your granted credit under Akos would have been significantly higher than your claimed credit, since you weren't "calibrating" or "optimising" the client. Of course the new situation is that they will be the same if you are running 5.2.6 or later for your BOINC client, irrespective of any calibration.

So, if you were to rephrase the quoted statement, would it be that your granted credit has now in fact declined? perhaps that's not quite so eye-catching as saying that claimed credit has risen :). It's really only what happens to granted credit that is likely to engender some "discussion" :).

My question is not meant to inflame or criticise. I'm simply curious as to what happened to your granted credit? I can well imagine that your claimed credit has risen the way you mention since you were so heavily underclaiming previously :).

Edit: I see Rudy has jumped in whilst I was composing my question. Discussion of what is happening to credit under S5 is fine as long as people "play the ball" and not "the man". There's no reason for anyone to go into attack mode. People with different opinions should simply just agree to differ.

Cheers,

Cheers,
Gary.

If you weren't using an

If you weren't using an optimized client to go with the science app before you were claiming very low credit. 25c/h is about what my got when running the standard s4 app. 15c/h is extremely low if you were running 100% with an akos app.

With the albert4.37 akos optimized you got more output disabling HT. With the new S5 application does that still hold true? ( Still have days of 4.37 til I get there) Any comparasins HT enabled/disabled anyone can give please?

I thought the title of this thread is "Information" about the new S5 workunits not the "Credit" of S5. I am looking for info and not receiving and having my post BURIED so I must have posted to the wrong thread.

Perhaps a Credit for S5 thread needs to be started.....

There is no Akos-app for Linux. ;)

My would claim 30-32 C/h without credit correction. Due to running VMware etc. this might be 10% less.

My XP 2400+@2225MHz will get about 12,73 C/h running S5, a quotient of ~4.6 compared to the actual RAC.

But after a while, watching the RAC go down on all optimized Windows-machines, we will be used to it und only be very happy about the new credit system. :-)

Well, technically speaking your question was about the application, not the workunit either.

Since I'm running my P4-3 machine in HT mode, please feel free to compare it to your non HT machine when you finish your first work unit.

Ignoring the issue of credit (which is always a touchy subject), there's another issue which may drive some crunchers away...

I have a strong preference for projects with work units that don't take more than 2-3 hours to compute on a reasonably fast CPU. There are other like me (scary thought?)

SETI massively increased their WU length. It was one of the reasons I stopped my involvement in that project and came back to Einstein. With AKOS apps, my slowest computer would take 2 hours at worst for a "long" work unit (and the fastest would do them in half an hour). Great!

If S5 work units are going to take over 9 hours on one of my fastest computers (Opteron 248), it is a disincentive for me to stay with Einstein when I can get similar credit elsewhere on work units that don't take as long.

Just offering my point of view on work unit length and how it may affect some people's choice of project, driving them away from Einstein.

I totally agree with your view point.

I just got my first S5 unit 6

I just got my first S5 unit 6 hrs ago...it still shows that I have 4 more hrs to go. I guess my question would have been, should I have eliminated Akos U41.05 app and the trux caibration before starting the S5 units?

Hm, i dont think it makes a difference. You can turn off calibration for Einstein because it doesnt change anything now, but i dont think its a too big problem. And the U41 app is just not used anymore, you can delete it (better wait a bit till there are really no more s4 WU's) but dont have to.

No need to. Just keep on

No need to. Just keep on crunching.

Then you're really interested in a subject, there is no way to avoid it. You have to read the Manual.
