When I started to crunch over here, there was no setting like this afair. Guess it changed with an update of the forum software?
There was only an option to "Hide signatures", that I used. Didn't look at the forum prefs for a loooong time. ;)
That has the same problem. ;-)
If it weren't here when you last checked that page and it is now, the default setting for "Show images as links" is to be not checked. So even if it wasn't there last time you checked, and it appeared in between you checking then and now, its default setting wouldn't have changed. Meaning you will have been there between it appearing and now to change to it. ;-)
Now, I quickly checked the BOINC source code; The edit_forum_preferences_form.php code of the then used BOINC back-end (5.2) has a date of at least 2 August 2005. The "Use images as links" option is already in this one. This means it was already there in an earlier revision of the code. Most probably before you registered, most probably before I registered.
Ah, found it. Checkin_notes_2004:
David 4 Sept 2004
- Option to display images as links
- Option to open links in a new window
- Option to hide avatars
- Option to enable/disable attach of signature by default

Go to Your account->Community preferences->uncheck "Show images as links" and click Update.
Thanks a lot. :) Didn't know

Didn't know about this feature.
Well.... the default setting

Well.... the default setting is not to show images as links, so in some distance past you (or someone with access to your account) must have set that.

I found it too and don't ask me about that code. :(
So all that stays is to agree with you, cause of my bad eyes. ;)
There is a very small chance the forum used an older version of the code, but I don't believe it.
