When you click the button nothing comes up - if you force the screensaver you just get a blank screen
I have installed this on my NVidia Ti4200 and the gfx comes up fine - so I am pretty sure it is a radeon type issue - suggestions - and PLEASE don't ask me to update drivers - it is the first thing I have checked!!!!!
To all those, starting with birk who are now posting about graphics problems with ATI cards, please go back and read the first 4 posts in this thread. Dr., the initial poster stated he had "ATI Radeon 9600". He was advised to try out the beta app. He came back and said that the advice worked!!
Birk came along, actually quoting the success message, and said that it didn't work for him. I assumed he must have tried all the previous advice. In my reply I even reiterated the advice about trying the beta app.
So to birk, Scooter and Esceptico: - Have any of you actually tried the beta app? One of its main functions was to fix problems with ATI hardware.
Also, to those claiming to have the latest drivers: - Are you talking about WindowsUpdate (which is usually way out of date) or have you gone to ATI itself for the true latest drivers. I'm sure I've seen somewhere, some success stories with the "Manufacturer supplied" latest drivers. I don't recall any details as I've not had any of these problems personally.
One final point, if you are going to use the beta app, please follow the instructions very carefully. You are actually installing a beta version of the science app that at some stage in the future you will have to replace when the new standard science app is released. This replacement will happen automatically for those users running the standard science app, version 4.79. It will not happen automatically for those running the beta app, version 0.18. You will need to keep track of things and when the time comes you will have to delete a file called app_info.xml which is installed along with the beta app. You will know when that file is installed as BOINC will report in its messages, "Using anonymous platform". This essentially means that BOINC will ignore the normal rules for checking and updating the standard science app and will continue to use the special app that is named in the app_info.xml file.
I have gone to ATI for the latest drivers which were posted in the middle if November. Going to a beta version just to get the graphics in not worth the application problems one could get from a test version of any application. The developers need to have some sites that test their software but they should be supporting those sites. They really don't need to have a large number of sites with potential problems.

Don,
0.18 is "beta" in name only, it has been very thoroughly tested over the past 2+ months, it_just_plain_works. Please read this thread Wish List/PLEASE,Make 0.18 Official..., before judging too harshly.

I also think is a RADEON issue.
I have a Thinkpad T41 with a ATI RADEON 7600 and I have the same problem mentioned before.
The screensaver works just fine in another computer with a Intel 82845G/GL/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics controller.
