I have an ATI card yet I keep seeing messages in the log saying that I'm requesting new tasks for GPU. This is followed by a message from the server that no work was sent, that I don't have an NVIDIA GPU. Is there some setting I'm missing to stop these useless requests? Right now I have no task for Einstein and no indication I'm requesting CPU work.

How to stop requests for GPU tasks
)
Are you using the ATI card for any project that does have applications for it?
If you are, then just ignore these messages from Einstein, they will back-off until it'll only ask once every 24 hours. Well, unless you do a manual Update on the project, then the timer for the GPU work request is reset and it'll start again until it backs off for 24 hours again.
If you aren't using the GPU, you can disable it being detected.
To do so either:
1. If you haven't made one yet at a prior time, use Notepad (not Word or Wordpad!) to make a cc_config.xml file in your BOINC Data directory. Default paths for that can be found in this FAQ.
Add into the cc_config.xml file:
Save the file, making sure it gets the .XML extension, not something else.
Then exit and restart BOINC.
2. Upgrade to BOINC 6.10.21, install it and start it from the command line with
The extra line of --detach closes the command line window, but leaves the client running. You can then start BOINC Manager to see what's going on. Making a shortcut or batch file of this may be easy.
RE: ... Right now I have no

You have a task now so your machine must have recently asked for CPU work. Maybe your machine wasn't asking for CPU work because of a debt to SETI.
In perusing your tasks list for E@H, I noticed several compute errors with the infamous 'too many exit(0)s' error message. This problem is not properly understood but seems to be becoming far too prevalent of late. You may be able to assist by telling us if you run any particular internet security suite or anti-virus software. There are strong indications that certain types of such software may be part of the problem. Another possible factor is the use of the CPU time preference to allow BOINC to only use x% of CPU time.
Can you please advise about these two things, thanks?
EDIT: I'd forgotten about your other thread where you advised that you were indeed using Kaspersky. Having found it again, I notice that for a while anyway, you seemed to get rid of the exit(0) problems by changing the config of Kaspersky. Are you still running Kaspersky and do you have any inkling as to the cause of the most recent exit(0)s?
Cheers,
Gary.

One thing I found in another thread:
Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. (Kleiner Scherz)
I am still using Kaspersky
)
I am still using Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 but continue to struggle with it in other areas. I think I've eliminated most of my problems with BOINC and Einstein by adding the BOINC client, BOINC manager for Windows, setiathome_enhanced and einstein_S5R6_3.01_windows_intelx86_2.exe to the list of trusted applications.
As for the recent exit(0) issues, those may be related to Kaspersky as well though not directly. I'm having other problems with it, have had to reboot a couple of times because can K will sometimes hang or at least become unresponsive to the user interface. My machine is pretty old and by current standards not all that powerful; I thing sometimes things simply get stretched too thin.
I upgraded to BOINC 6.10.21 and started it as recommended but am still seeing the messages about requesting GPU tasks. I haven't yet created the cc_config.xml file but will probably try that later today.

Yes, me too. I'll run that by the developers.
RE: RE: I upgraded to

See if you have any more success than I did with the suggestion that the servers should automatically send the 'no_ati' inhibit flag, for instance, when no ATI application is installed.
RE: RE: I upgraded to

It would appear to be broken. A bug-fix is added at this time, will be available in a next BOINC. I'll test it again then. :)
And um, Richard, why not try again your self? Now you fixed the libcurl issue, you're probably somewhat higher up the 'love/hate' list again, on the 'love' side. ;-D

Done.
