Okay, I'm getting a bit annoyed with this now. I've downloaded the BOINC program, and in the connection guide I ask it to connect to http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/. So far so good.

Next it gives me two options: "Create New Account" or "Use Existing Account". Cool. Since I believe I created an account on this website I've tried that the most. I've tried my user name, the account key, my email, password address and "http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/" and sensible ones of the 25 possible combinations of these in the two text fields marked "Address" and "Password" (translated from Swedish version which refuses to change to English after settings change and after reboot). Each time I either get the unknown account error, or when I use my user name as an 'address' I get an unknown password error, which I guess means it at least recognizes that account (although it doesn't recognize key or password).

I've also tried some of the 25 combinations for the "Create New Account" option too with no better results. (On the assumption this account would somehow be different from the one on the website and specific to BOINC.)

I'm surprised how hostile BOINC is... Sorry for being harsh but I'm not in a good mood after I've wasteed half an hour to log in with zero results.

EDIT: I'm using BOINC 5.2.2 if it makes any difference.

You need to go to your acct and set up your pass word, then it should work...

Saying it another way

When you activated your account, you got an account key, but did you create a password as well here at Boinc. If you didn't, you can do it when you go to "Your account" with "Change password".

With that password, not the passwod of Classic, and your e-mail address it should work.

I'm not really sure why you

I'm not really sure why you are having problems so please humour me while I ask a few dumb questions to attempt to clarify where the process is breaking down. Please realise that I'm actually running on a much earlier version of BOINC so I have no direct experience of a 5.2.2 fresh install. However I don't believe that there is too much different with the basic process so I'll try to help.

  • *You created an account and received the email containing the URL and the account ID (or key) - a long random string?
*You have successfully logged into the website using this information?
*When on the website did you happen to change the random password by any chance?
*You installed BOINC 5.2.2 on your machine without any issues?
*At the end of the install BOINC Manager started and asked you to give a URL?
*You gave the correct Einstein URL at which point you were offered the choice between "New" and "Existing" accounts?
*You chose existing and it asked you for your email address as a single item on one screen?
*Then on the next screen it asked you for a password?
*Did you type these in or did you use cut and paste?
*Are you absolutely sure that you got both items totally correct - no leading or trailing spaces?

The above is the sequence of steps I think you would have gone through. You have to put your correct email address in as the identifying item. The password you give has to be the long random string sent to you in the email message when you first requested an account on EAH, unless you subsequently changed your password to something more decipherable, in which case you would use the latter.

As an experiment can you go to the website and attempt to change your password there to something very simple. If you can change it then at least you know what it was. Then you can change it back. Then fire up BOINC Manager and attempt to attach to the EAH project using your email address and this working password when requested.

Please let us know if what you did is different from the above or if the above is not a fair description of how things actually went for you. We'll plan the next step(s) based on what you can tell us so please report everything no matter how insignificant it might seem.

Cheers,
Gary.

Jim K, why are you giving him a link to a Seti page?? And why are you talking about "Classic"? He's trying to attach to EAH and not Seti!!

Cheers,
Gary.

OK it works now after I

OK it works now after I rechose a password and used my email for the address field. I'm still surprised I couldn't use the password I originally chose (and I was sure I typed it in correctly).

It could be a lot more clear what "address" does refer to, though perhaps it's just a translation issue in the Swedish version. Addionally the "password" field might be interpreted as the key. If this ambigiouity can be reduced in BOINC's step instructions in the guide it will be nice.

I had the same problem today,

I had the same problem today, however I wasn't prompted for an initial password. Then after I read this thread, I went back and changed the password and everything works. That may be the problem
