Hi,

I want to run my PC 24h/day, but I only have a dial-up internet connection and can't be always online.

If I could get ~30 big WUs (111 points) at once, I will be able to run my PC one day with only one internet connection.

Is it possible??

It is not possible to "order" big or small work units. I believe your best bet would be to set up a cache of 1 day or so of work units (instead of the default 0.1), that way your computer can have enough work put by to crunch for the day until you connect to report and download/upload.

A Kentsfield Enterprise Server on a dial-up connection? Ouch.

Go to the 'Your account' section of this website, and click on 'General preferences'.

Find 'Connect to network about every' (third section, first item) and increase it to say 2 days - link to 'Edit preferences', then 'Update preferences' at the bottom of the next screen.

Finally, open BOINC Manager, choose the 'Projects' tab, highlight Einstein and click the 'Update' button. You should see a whole lot of extra WUs download after a minute or two, and each time you connect after that.

Hope that helps - and welcome to Einstein!

[edit] Be aware that Einstein will periodically send you a new datafile of either 4MB or 16MB. It lasts for several WUs, but at your rate of production, it won't last very long - you may need a new one every couple of days. You can do it with one internet dial-up per day, but be prepared for it to be a long one! [/edit]

Yeah, it works. :D

Thank you very much.

Broadband is not available yet, but it will be upgraded now.

If it is ready, I will have a 16 MBit connection.
(this is not bad for a one horse town)

WHich horse-town would that

WHich horse-town would that be? Most people I know from villages have 1 MB or less... I doubt I could even get 16 MBit here in a relatively decent-sized town...
