Help please,

I wrote this app_config file to stop the FGRP3 WU from running on my GPU and to allow multiple WU from BRP4 & 5 on GPU. I wrote a similar file for SETI and it is working fine. What is happening, when I try and start my BOINC Manager, I get the pop-up window saying "communicating with client" and it just hangs there and my disk drive activity light stays on.

I removed the file from the Einstein project folder, but it didn't help.

I hope I can save the installation. I have a lot of WU that would be dumped if I had to re-install either BOINC or Einstein.

Thanks, Ron

Hi Ron,
You didn't say which host you are having the difficulty with, but if it's your '504' the following is in its scheduler log:

2014-04-05 01:51:27.0147 [PID=10731] [send] stopping work search - insufficient disk space

Might be something here...

Gord

Hi Gord,

Yes, it is my "504" host. Could something in the app_config file have caused this? This started as soon as I tried to start my BOINC Manager (7.2.42) with this app_config file.

Something is definitly being downloaded, I have over 9 gigs of data in the project folder. There are a lot of files like "h1_0088.05_S6Directed" and "l1_0088.10_S6Directed". They are all about 5 meg in size and there are 1,700 of them!

Thanks, Ron

There's a difference between

There's a difference between free diskspace and free diskspace available to BOINC Go in the BOINC Manager to the Disk-tab and check there how much space is actually available to BOINC.

If you still can't start/open Boinc put the file back in to the Einstein project folder but change -1 to 1 for the hsgamma app first.
If that works then delete the whole to section for the hsgamma app, save the file and do a "Advanced -> Read config files" in Boinc. Then go to your Einstein@home preferences and set the FGRP utilization factor to -1 to prevent more FGRP3 task from being downloaded.

As to all the files in the project folder that's because of locality scheduling for the S6 Gravity Wave search, once they are no longer needed Boinc should delete them. Deleting them manually won't work as Boinc would then download them again. If you want to clear them anyway then set Einstein to "No new tasks" finish and report all tasks and then reset the project, if that doesn't clear them then remove and add the project again.

That -1 in the app_config file was the culprit! I changed it to 1, and BOINC started up ok. I deleted that whole section of the app_config, and changed the FGRP factor to-1 in my preferences and then stopped and started BOINC aqgain. It seems to be working ok now. I will need wait and see if the rest of the app_config file works as planned.

Done! I will wait and see which method I will need.
