Flight of the Virgo Cluster(want to take a ride)

Nice ride! Thanks, Ernie.

I recall learning (from previous discussion here) that much work is being done to construct an astrometric grid. After seeing the 'Flight of the Virgo Cluster', and having played around a bit with the new Google Earth application, (and also the Google Mars, and Google Moon, which I didn't know existed until just now googling 'Google Universe' to see if it already exists), it would be nice to use something like that to view what we can see of the cosmos. It should be already possible, according to this quote from the page on the astrometric grid:

Quote:
It is important to note that it is not necessary for the grid solution to be completed before science operations begin -- instead combined grid and science measurement scenarios are made, then properly interpreted in the context of the grid solution later.

edit: if you zoom all the way in with the Google Moon, you can see they have quite a sense of humor!

Now that would be a Grand Day Out! :-)
Cheers, Mike.

( edit ) Just took the Virgo ride! Isn't it hard to grasp the true scale? Thanks Ernesto!

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...
