After my computer has been running BOINC, and I try to do something else, the screen starts flashing on and off, especially when I move the mouse around. What's going on and how can I stop it?

What is your screen resolution set at? Mine is 1024 x 768 for example. Also what is the numbers of colors set at? Mine is highest 32bit.

Thats a laptop, the problem could be serious if it got nvidia graphics. Nvidia had problems a while back with some bad solder material used in some graphics chips, the problem affects mobile chips almost exclusively.
If its ATI or Intel graphics the problem is elsewhere and probably not serious, maybe just a bad driver or setting. Completely remove and reinstall drivers fixes many problems for ATI graphics, well worth a try also if its Intel or nvidia. (you should try other things first even if your laptop has nvidia graphics, dont jump to the worst case scenario at once).
