Indeed for Latin, however for American English, Webster's Third lists both forums and fora as plural formations for forum, with forums listed first.

I tried to squint at my OED (mine is the compact edition, and seems to have become much smaller since I purchased it in graduate school) to see whether it had a different finding for British English, but could not discern its call.

As I've seen our fair moderator (and many others) use the Internet-popular "quora" as a plural for quorum, I should note that Webster's Third only recognizes "quorums" for that plural.

Your dictionary may vary.

Yup, those were the days my friend. The chrome was still shiny new, the paint still fresh. Worst we faced was a JQ. Brings a tear to my eye. :)

( edit ) Oh, and another hint to all and sundry - use the smileys !!!

Mike,

Sorry, I've been absent more than not lately, side-effects of this doggone chemo, and somewhere I missed the lessons on smileys. :-{

And you have been missed.

I hope things are going well for you. I have seen several people go through different types, and it saddens me when I do see it, because it is so rough. I hope good things for you, and hope to can pop in more often so we can try and keep you smiling and laughing, because those are some of the best medicines out there!

Pooh Bear 27,

Thank you so much for such kind words and sentiments. I am afflicted with pancreatic cancer which has metastasized to my liver. It was quite out of hand for the first 2 months, but the chemo seems to have had quite some effect, at least upon the liver. I think that the liver has become quite a bit cleaned up, though I'll have to wait until the results of my next CT scan (on May 24, results due June 1) to see to what extent it has been reversed, and especially to find if it has had a similar effect upon the primary pancreas tumor. I really need some good news here. :-) So, God Bless you for caring and expressing it, and to all others similarly caring, and please, drop a prayer for me, if you happen to be so inclined.

Love,

Michael R.

... snip ...

Now there's a problem, I only speak English :P

I don't think dictionaries "define" words, they just explain the use. So if common use of a word is "awful", the dictionary "details" will be changed accordingly. I'm not sure if there is a standard book for the correct pronunciation of words. Here, we go to the ABC's, TV News, Correct English Language desk. Well, the name's something like that, it's a government owned station.
