I've been getting a lot of failures recently such as this. Can anybody tell me what is going on? I've recently upgraded to Win 7 from XP pro, added a new HD and video card.

Something is blocking BOINC from starting up the science application. Check things like firewall, anti-virus and other anti-malware programs.

Hmmmm. I have Kaspersky as my only software based AV and firewall. It is the 2010 version. Other Einstein WU's seem to go fine, as do the SETI's. I've gone thru KIS with a fine tooth comb and have found entries for BOINC. All BOINC entries are allowed. There are no specific entries for Einstein or SETI so I'm assuming that the 4 values listed cover all that is required. That would include the tray, the screensaver, client and manager for Windows.
The Einstein filenames that start with H work fine. Any other, like P and it fails.
It's late and I'm tied, so I'm sure I'm missing something, I just can't see it.

Since BOINC doesn't do any of the science, you'll have to add the Einstein applications as well. Yes, that's plural.
The H and L tasks use the Einstein_S5R*.exe file.
The P tasks use the ABP1 executable (I don't have it, so I don't know its true name).
See http://einsteinathome.org/node/194626&nowrap=true#100700 for a lot more information about Kaspersky and how it reacts to science applications.

This got me on the right track, although the fix wasn't as advertised. Nonetheless, I will see if it works when an ABP WU next comes around. Thanks for your help.

You actually have 2 ABP1 tasks in your cache. If you suspend the GW tasks that are ahead of them temporarily, one of them will start as soon as a CPU becomes available. That way you can get a quicker answer and you can plan to be watching as the ABP1 task starts. As soon as that happens, you can unsuspend any temporarily suspended tasks and all will return to normal.
Once this is all over, it would be appreciated if you could give a report as to exactly what you had to do to 'fix' things, thanks.
Cheers,
Gary.
