My credit situation grows worse.

My first upgrade, from BOINC 4.19 to 4.25, caused my claimed credit to drop from the 80 point range to the high 50 point range. After some discussion on this board, I resigned myself to claiming less.

Now, I've upgraded from 4.25 to 4.43. I'm still claiming in the same range -- but the average WU is taking an hour longer to process. Instead of 12hr 25min, I'm into 13hr 14min.

Should I just stop upgrading, and go back to 4.19? I have a top-of-the-line notebook, with dual 2.80 processors functioning as if they're 3.2Ghz. I shouldn't be spending 13 hours per WU (which I do two at a time).

Every time I upgrade...

Eventually you will not be able to get work with older clients.

Can anybody out there figure

Message 12207 in response to message 12206

Can anybody out there figure out why I'm so slow? No viruses, no spyware, nothing else happening on the machine.

abinkow; Please give us some more information about your notebook. I have never heard of a dual processor lappy. You may have a hyperthreading 2.8 ghz Pentium 4 doing two wu's at a time. How much ram is in this toy. If it takes you 13 hours for a work unit, thats 6.5 hours each. That doesn't seem out of line for a 2.8 proc. Remember, lappys have all sorts of power saving and cpu cooling features. I tried 4.25 and hated it. I replaced it with 4.43. Make, model, OS, ram, please. Turn off the screensaver.

This is odd, as it isn't the CC that does the work. It shouldn't make any difference in processing times. (4.25 and 4.43 being similar comms wise)

Get a slower laptop. I'm

Get a slower laptop. I'm running on Acer C3O2XMi which is on 1.6 GHz laptop that runs Einstein in under 10 hours. Maybe you should run only one of your dual processors. Another problem could be heat this can make it run at a slower speed. If leaving it running overnight try opening it out to 45 degrees and putting it on its side.

For what it's worth, there has been NO CHANGE to the Einstein@Home application in this time. So what has happened is that for some reason the BOINC core client or the BOINC manager are burning up lots of CPU cycles on your machine. You might try using Task Manager to see whether it is the Client or the Manager that is doing this.

I would also recommend using

I would also recommend using boinc 4.45 as it has fixed a lot of the strange behaviour from previous versions. 4.43 did have an issue with boinc.exe using up lots of cpu cycles, it is fixed in 4.45.

My computer has been down for

My computer has been down for the past week. When I restarted I was no longer running Einstein@Home. No project was shown and no task was shown on the Boinc window. How do I restart the system? Lowell Zabel
