Strangley, I didn't see that previous thread you linked me to... I did look for any similar messages before I posted my msg...!

Even so, it doesn't explain why:

1) I've still got 5 WU's in the "Work" window
2) BOINC isn't crunching any of them - I've been crunching a CPDN WU now for nearly 12 hours and in all that time, the Einstein WU's do not seem to receive any resource at all. (And Einstein has a greeater percentage share than CPDN - so Einstein should be the "priority" project).

Maybe the trick is to "detach" this PC from the Einstein project - the WU's are already expired due to BOINC not giving them the time to be crunched.

Hi John,

Have tried restarting the client as well as rebooting the PC. All to no avail.

Looked through "client_state.xml" and found the following:

SETI:
[debt]10019.262665[/debt]

CPDN:
[debt]5725.649311[/debt]

LHC:
[debt]0.000000[/debt]

Predictor:
[debt]13781.582330[/debt]

Einstein:
[debt]0.000000[/debt]

So, no negative number here..! (Is that "good"?)

As things stand now, the only way I can get Einstein to be crunched is to change the resource share to about 50% (for Einstein) and leave the others on equal settings of around 12% each.

Even so, BOINC is still not giving "Report deadline" priority to specific WU's....!

Thanks for the reply.

Well I think there's a third scenario because:

1) The 5 WU's are now being crunched - so there was work to be done - 2 have now been returned, but they were crunched AFTER the deadline passed and AFTER other WU's were downloaded from other projects (I'd kept BOINC disabled from accessing the network, hoping to force BOINC to crunch these 5 WU's before the deadline, but it didn't work and the Einstein WU's just sat there with no resource share given to them - all the resource went to CPDN (which was the only other project running, as could be seen by the zero CPU time given to Einstein WU's).

Only once BOINC received other WU's (from SETI and Predictor projects) did BOINC start crunching the Einstein WU's).

2) There's bags of disk space - around 2 Gb free for BOINC.

What can be happening and why doesnt BOINC crunch data with earlier Report Deadlines" before other WU's with much later deadlines. After all, BOINC should "know" how long it takes to crunch respective projects WU's on each host, so it should be able to ensure that WU's with a deadline coming soon, should receive priority.

(Of course, I recognise that some projects could set very short deadlines and hence they would then essentially take over the host, because these WU's would always get priority - but surely that's down to whoever "designed" BOINC to ensure a level playing field).
