I changed the email address on my E@H account and now, several hours later, my account is still at "pending verification" status.
Needless to say this most distressing and disappointing that the whole email system for E@H seems to either be outright broken or just VERY VERY slow to the point where it's fast becoming a huge turnoff which if left unfixed, will hurt the project when it eventually goes "live".
I hope this reaches the people in the project who are in a position to do something about it.

Email verification problem??
)
The email address in your account data looks quite odd to me, containing two "@" (one right at the beginning) and a lot of chracters ("_....") following after the top level domain. Maybe there was something more in the clipboard when you pasted it than you intended, or whatver - the one currently in the database is definetly invalid.
And by the way: "Needless to say" - yes. Absolutely needless. We're doing what we can, and this is still test phase.

Read the threads.
They're always here answering questions and trying to sort things out.

Well, I will try to change it again (AFTER clearing the clipboard ;) ), but I think you're missing the problem, or maybe I wasn't clear. I understand that this is a BETA and am very aware of what that means, bu this is not a new problem by any means.....On the BOINC team I am a mamber of, out founders been waiting for email confirmation of our teams creation with E@H for weeks if not months. Now that I'm also having problems just getting routine maintenance changes made to my personal E@H account, the 2 just cannot be a mere coincidence.
Please read the comments from "Kinguni" our teams founder, and PLEASE note the dates of the posts.

I don't beleive it's a problem on the front-end. The user account page on the E@H website works as it's supposed to. I was able to 'appear' to successfully change the address and get the message about receiving an email to complete the change.
Considering it was a typed address and not cut 'n pasted, the clipboard's not a suspect. The random characters you are seeing are far more indicative of back end database corruption or a script malfunction.
So, if someone could run some consistency checks on whatever handles the user account information, you might just find a bad table or script that's screwing up the works and making simple tasks difficult.
Thanks.

Ok.... I *JUST* change the email address again, making sure to clear the clipboard and slowly typed it in and now the wait begins.
I will post back tomorrow if it was successful or not, to give the validator plenty of time to chew on this and to eliminate any impatience on my part.

BTW: We are manually and gradually increasing the number of (test-) users as we are changing hardware and software to be able to handle more and more of them. Far more people than we expected and could handle signed up to show their interest in participating and we had (and still have) to hold them back to not break the project. So "waiting" for an account for weeks is not unusual in this phase. Once the door is open for the public, automatic account creation should work within minutes.

I'm still seeing the old invalid address in the database, maybe it's not accepting any change to that odd thing. I'll let the PHP/DB guys sort this out, there's alway one more bug left....

Thank you for reporting this

Thank you for reporting this problem. I suspect that there is a problem with some php code somewhere and I will look into it now.
I will let you know when the problem is fixed.

I think the problem is that the email is not making it to your account for some reason (maybe spam filtering or something). I would suggest the you change your email back to the original or some other account and if you receive the email then every thing is working fine on our end.
I looked at the relevant code and tested my own account and every thing worked for me.
Bernd commented that your email address looked incorrect in the database but actually the email address is intentionally "munged" until the user varieties that the email account actually belongs to them.

The email system for E@H is not actually slow I think there is just a misunderstanding of how accounts get created. When you sign up on the APS website
http://www.physics2005.org/events/einsteinathome/index.html
you get put on a waiting list for an account. As soon as Bruce feels that our system is ready to handle more users (and computers) we add the next 2000 or so users on the waiting list. We are continuously working to improve our systems and eventually we expect that everyone who wants to contribute to E@H will be able to.
Thank you,
