Einstein@Home public event 2011

The Albert-Einstein-Institut in Hannover is planning to host a public event on July 1st, in celebration of the anniversary of the first Einstein@Home radio-pulsar discovery.
We plan to have guests from all around the world, some enlightening talks and a nice barbecue. There will be the possibility to see the computing facilities of the AEI and probably to visit the GEO600 GW detector site.
We are still open for ideas and suggestions, in particular on whether Friday is the best day of the week to hold such an event. Feel free to express your likings and ideas in the comments to this news.

Hallo !
It´s a very nice idea!
I would suggest Fr. 2nd July, starting sometime late morning or midday would be better, to give the working people a better chance to take part and drive before somewhat longer distances.
Will it be possibel also to heare and see(?) something about the LISA project???
If I´m well up at that time, I will be pleased to come. (At moment it´s not so sure.)

According to my calendar July 1st is a Friday, July 2nd a Saturday.
I don't think there will be an official talk about LISA, but probably a poster or similar and certainly competent people that you could talk to.

I don't think we'll take photos officially. However judging from the last event in 2006 I guess that a couple of participants being here will take photos, and we surely encourage them to share these on the web.
We are also investigating the possibility to use EVO to share the talks (at least audio & slides) and to chat into that event from outside.

I am following NASA videos on USTREAM which is high definition and runs both on my Linux Firefox and Seamonkey without any intervention on my part. NASA ceased using RealPlayer and my Mplayer was ill at ease with Windows Media (I could see the Media and Education streams but not the Public stream). JPL instead uses FlashPlayer, which runs perfectly on my Linux box.

Does PB stand for Paderborn? Cool, I'm also from Paderborn :-). Most of the AEI staff in Hannover involved in Einstein@Home (e.g. Bernd , Oliver and scientists like Benjamin Knispel and others) are native German speakers. No problem.

It would be nice, to hear something about the problems at the Pulsar search, as until now the published List of Re-Detections includes just about 50% of that listed in PALFA . I believe, this problem is also the reason, why there is now List of Re-Detections from project BRP3 published until now.
I would be also very much pleased to see the GEO600.
It became very likely, that I can take part at that event. I enjoy very much my memories of the last meeting at Potsdam/Golm.

The "problems at the Pulsar

The "problems at the Pulsar search" are basically limitations in manpower. Benjamin is currently writing up his PhD thesis and has not much time for other things. He will certainly give a talk on July 2nd.
Apparently some Arecibo data / intermediate results didn't make it to the final post-processing and got dropped at different stages. What we lost and where is currently under investigation. I myself spent 1.5d on that this week.
We are trying to arrange for a visit to GEO600. However, we can't risk to ruin a collection of scientifically valuable data. Whether GEO600 will actually take scientific data ("science mode") on July 2nd will depend on the status of the detector then, will be decided on pretty short notice and is impossible to tell now.
But we will probably have a tour through the local AEI Labs, which IMHO is even more interesting than the detector.
