I change resource shares in BOINCcstats BAM! and they don't get changed in einstein@home — ever! — not after synchronising with BOINCcstats BAM! and not after updating in any of the three computers currently running einstein@home.

In the Resources section of BOINCcstats BAM!, the Last Update column always says “Incorrect response from project for einstein@home. if this is a feature, I'ld like to see it changed as a matter of urgency.

The only way to change them is to get into einstein@home preferences and change both the default and Home preferences. Which brings up another question, where do you set the default to “Home?

Einstein@Home not Responding correctly to BOINCcstats BAM!

Einstein has no direct way to change how BAM! works. Your best course of action to report problems you have with BAM! is on the BAM! forums.

With that said, once you attached to Einstein through BAM! you need not attach separately to Einstein@Home. The only option you need to use through BOINC Manager is "Attach to account manager" and use the synchronization commands after that.

Sorry about my empty reply: I was having trouble with the browser on my Wintel machine and it sent the message when it crashed. Maybe things will go better on a Mac machine. :-)

Of course Einstein has no direct way to change how BAM! works, but the Einstein BOINC server can be configured correctly to let BAM! interact with its database. BAM! works with most BOINC Projects, including SETI@Home, SZTAKI Desktop Grid and ABC@home, to name three that I am contributing to. It doesn't work with World Community Grid BOINC Projects, but then WCG itself admits the it is not (yet) compatible with BAM!. Thus, I conclude that the problem is with the Einstein Project.

Exactly! You didn't hear me when I said that that is what was not working. If I go to BAM! and update my resource shares for the five projects, then do a sync on one of my BOINC clients and then an update on all five projects from my BOINC client, then three process show an update in the resource shares: WCG and Einstein do not. When I log into BAM! and look at the resources table again, the preferences I have set are all correct, but in the column to the left labelled "Last update", I get "Success" for three of my clients, "No response from project" for WCG (as expected) and "Incorrect response from project" for Einstein. When Iog into Einstein and check my preferences, there has been no change for "Resource Share". If I hand update it, then all is correct after an update to the Einstein Project from a BOINC Client. Clearly, BAM! is having problems with getting the BOINC Server on Einstein to update the Preferences in my User Account

It is a problem with the Einstein BOINC project's User Account interface, and I believe that it once worked and is now broken.

Can we get it fixed?

George

I'm replying because there is

Message 75623 in response to message 75622

I'm replying because there is still a problem with boincstats and Einstein resources. Here's what I said at another project:

Quote:
I changed my resource share at http://boincstats.boincstats.com/bam/resources.php, but Einstein gave an incorrect response and WCG gave no response. So I went to http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/home.php and changed Einstein's resource as you had explained for Rosetta. It worked. I can't figure out how to change the resource number for WCG though. Maybe I have it setup wrong or have to wait until I have some work done and get credit. Any ideas?

On my home PC Boinc has Einstein showing work done as 473.69, but I know the recent work was done on my work PC. Is their something I need to do to get my work machines' numbers to report on Boincstats.com? Cross Project ID?

I now have 709.98 showing in the Boinc application, but not in my signature or on boincstats. Someone at Rosetta suggested I check the cross project ID, but I didn't have time to check the ID (or know how), because I had a busy day at work preparing for finals. I noticed that boincstats updated my credits to 473, but I think Einstein may just be slow to report. I'll see how long it takes my new credits (709.98) to show up. BTW, credits aren't a big deal to me personally, but I'm going to have a distributive computing science project with one of my classes next semester and want to see if I can use credits to determine part of the project grade. I look forward to seeing which project(s) they decide to run.

Welcome to

Welcome to Einstein@Home

As I write this, BOINCstats (also in the signature GIF) already shows 709 credits.

It's not that Einstein@Home reports the credits, Boincstats will periodically fetch the data. I'm not sure how often the updates are performed, tho.

If you look at the bottom of your account page at each project website, you will see it listed there. However, I wouldn't think that the difference you notice between the stats given by the project and the stats shown on BOINCstats has anything to do with your CPID. Please understand that whilst your stats on the project website are pretty much real time, the various stats sites like BOINCstats rely on downloading huge volumes of data for all participants perhaps once or twice per day at most (and then processing it all) and can't therefore be real time.

Cheers,
Gary.

Thanks guys. I didn't

Message 75626 in response to message 75625

Thanks guys. I didn't realize how BOINCstats worked, and was to impatient. I also don't think the CPID is a problem.

The Einstein resource problem on BOINCstats is still an issue, but since I went directly to Einstein's preferences to edit its resource share it doesn't bother me directly. I'd hate to see new people detach Einstein thinking that the project was offline because of the "Incorrect response from the project" on BOINCstats.
