The latest task will not start. I have reset the project multiple times but this does not help. The BOINC manager says the task has started but no progress is made on the task.

Hmm....any other hints in the BOINC manager message tab?
Note that BOINC will (by default, this can be configured in the Preferences) not run on a notebook if it runs on batteries.
Also, the progress bar is updated only about once every minute, so you don't see the progress instantly.
Your PC has already submitted a completed result today, so it must work in principle. A second result was aborted by you.

I fixed it. I saw a message about a dll failing to load so I decided to upgrade to the latest version of BOINC. After the upgrade and reinstall everything seems to be working again.
