Hi guys,
yesterday I had a look at my account and when I clicked on "IP address" I noticed something odd... instead of my normal IP given to me by my ISP Einstein shows a completely different one. You know, I'm using a "simulated LAN" tool so I can play with friends or use certain apps via a tunnel connection. In order for this to work, the tool has to assign an IP address to everyone in the "network" and that was in my case exactly the IP Einstein showed.
I don't think this has any adverse effects for either myself or the project, but being quite interested in the technical side of all this I'm curious how and why sth like that might happen.
Any suggestions? For your information, I'm behind a router and I'm also using a software firewall.

I am guessing here, but it is probably a pseudo-IP address used for internal communication. Einstein (or any other BOINC project) does not access the internet directly (only through BOINC). This recent thread (regarding Zone Alarm) has some discussion which may be relevant to your question.

Yes it is a kind of "pseudo-IP", designed to be accessible to people using the same tool. You are right, it might come from Einstein and Boinc using a localhost connect...
