Hi there!
Sorry for my BSE!
since some days i get following messages in the BOINC manager:
15.12.2010 16:15:32 Einstein@Home Started download of einstein_S5GC1HF_3.06_windows_intelx86__S5GCESSE2.exe
15.12.2010 16:20:34 Einstein@Home Temporarily failed download of einstein_S5GC1HF_3.06_windows_intelx86__S5GCESSE2.exe: HTTP error
15.12.2010 16:20:34 Einstein@Home Backing off 2 hr 4 min 5 sec on download of einstein_S5GC1HF_3.06_windows_intelx86__S5GCESSE2.exe
The new exe does not load.
Manually stop and try again ends always in the same result: 14.29% loaded and the DL breaks everytime at the same position.
Deactivating the Firewall is without effect.
My System is Win7 32bit with the standard IP and internet settings.
(and don't tell me, the problem sits in front of the display :) My mother's tongue is DOS.)

Disable the antivirus for a few minutes and retry the download.
Or exclude the BOINC Data folder from antivirus check.
(There where reports of AVG, Kaspersky, Comodo, McAfee, Symantec (Norton), ... blocking the downloads (but not NOD32))

Search for einstein_S5GC1HF_3.06_windows_intelx86__S5GCESSE2.exe in your client_state.xml file. It's in the BOINC data directory[edit],which might be hidden[/edit]. Near the bottom of the corresponding block, you should find five URLs to mirror sites.

Finally, it worked.
Gundolf's hint were the key to download the file.
After several broken and retried downloads, i got the 3.06 manually.
Don't ask for the reasons of the breakdowns...
To the 'antivirus questions', i use MSSE and it seems to make no difference if it is activated, or not.
