I have my Preferences set to contact the Server at 1 Day, the server gives me 15 WU's. There is no way in heck any of my computers is going to run 15 WU's a day when it takes them 9-11 Hours to run 2 in HT Mode.

The server is giving me 3-4 days of work when I only request 1 ... Whats up with Dat ... ;)

Download Preferences way out of Whack ... !!!

You have seven hosts registered. Which of these is the one that got the 15 WU?
Here is a snippet from our scheduler log for one of your machines:

2005-01-21 12:40:49 [normal ] Processing request from [USER#3373] [HOST#5409] [IP 68.61.51.68] [RPC#8] core client version 4.16
2005-01-21 12:40:49 [normal ] [HOST#5409] got request for 344710.080000 seconds of work; available disk 6.000000 GB

Notice the request is for 4 days of work. 8 results were sent, which is about right.

I just checked my preferences

I just checked my preferences and it seems that my setting from Seti@H have not been propagated to E@H, I missed this problem if it has been noted already...
Just checked my log and it appears that E@H was using the Seti@h preferences, because BOINC was leaving E@H in memory, but under E@H preferences that was not checked.....

When I first logged on I received 8 WUWUs and now am down to 4 and BOINC is DLing 1 WUWU a day so I am happy

Running p4 3.0 HT, 1gig memory, using BOINC 4.59. Am attached to Protein Predictor@H (RS 100), Seti@H (RS 100) and Einstein@H (RS 200)....

Maybe this info will help you PoorBoy.....

This is my Seti@H preferences;

Processor usage
Do work while computer is running on batteries?
(matters only for portable computers) no
Do work while computer is in use? yes
Do work only between the hours of (no restriction)
Leave applications in memory while preempted?
(suspended applications will consume swap space if 'yes') yes
Switch between applications every
(recommended: 60 minutes) 60 minutes
On multiprocessors, use at most 2 processors
Disk and memory usage
Use no more than 4 GB disk space
Leave at least 0.1 GB disk space free
Use no more than 90% of total disk space
Write to disk at most every 1200 seconds
Use no more than 90% of total virtual memory
Network usage
Connect to network about every
(determines size of work cache; maximum 10 days) 2 days
Confirm before connecting to Internet?

Bruce, it was Host 5404, between 10:42:35 & 10:44:11 this Morning, it downloaded 16 WU's with my Preferences set to 1 Day ... This was after I upgraded it to v4.16 ...

PS: Some of my other PC's downloaded way to many WU's also because I started out at 5 Days Preferences not realizing there was a 1 Week Deadline, but even at 5 Days it gave me 44 WU's which I would never be able to finish in 7 days time. I've slowly been backing off to a more acceptable work load. I can finish what it gives me for 1 day in 7 days, thats no problem. But I don't think the Server should be giving me 16 WU's for a 1 Day Preference when it takes me an average of 10 hours in HT Mode to do 2 of them ...

@ Pascal, I'm only

@ Pascal,

I'm only attached to Einstein@Home right now, I completly detached from Seti, so the settings I have at Seti shouldn't affect my settings here because I'm not attached to it any more...

HM, I watched a different way in the past: When I detached a client from a project, and it's preferences have been the latest ones, client said: preferences used from an unknown project ...

Supporting BOINC, a great concept !

The cache size is a global

The cache size is a global setting that affects all projects. It is propogated from server to client to server until all projects and clients have the same setting. This is true of all of the general settings.

Have updated to BOINC 4.18,

Have updated to BOINC 4.18, but no joy on suspending when user is active.
Went to preferences on website and changed the default 3 min to 2 min, then updated the BOINC client. Now it suspends properly. Is this a bug??

Hi Mom!

Could you please try changing the default back to 3 min and see if it keeps suspending properly? If it does, then this may be a bug related to how we first created the user accounts and sent out keys. It's probably not a bug in BOINC.

Bruce

Translating this into UTC gives 15:42 to 15:44 on Jan 21. Here's what we have in our logs:

2005-01-21 15:42:28 [normal ] Processing request from [USER#3373] [HOST#5404] [IP XX.XX.51.68] [RPC#15] core client version 4.16
2005-01-21 15:42:28 [normal ] [HOST#5404] got request for 342491.673600 seconds of work; available disk 3.283755 GB

2005-01-21 15:43:17 [normal ] [HOST#5404] Sent 8 results

then:
2005-01-21 15:44:11 [normal ] Processing request from [USER#3373] [HOST#5404] [IP XX.XX.51.68] [RPC#17] core client version 4.16
2005-01-21 15:44:11 [normal ] [HOST#5404] got request for 172272.925055 seconds of work; available disk 3.278512 GB

2005-01-21 15:44:48 [normal ] [HOST#5404] Sent 8 results

So your machine was sent 16 results because it asked for 5.9 days of work. Typical results from your machine take about 10 hours, so this seems pretty close to the 14 results that would have filled 6 days.

I don't know why your machine asked for some much work, but I think the scheduler gave it what was requested.

Cheers,
Bruce

Hi Bruce,
Sorry about the delay. Just changed the preferences back to 3 minutes and it seems suspended, so your predicate seems confirmed.

Love,

Dad
