I was recently looking at disk usage and noticed einstein was using 2+gb of disk space. I dug around and found that there is 2gb worth of files, all start with h1 and l1, that haven't been touched since they were created. Is it safe to delete these files or should I mark einstein as no new tasks and wait for all of the queued tasks to finish and reset the project. Are they for a particular app that einstein has no work for? Whats the deal with these files.

The Einstein project has two main search categories - one for gravitational waves and the other for pulsars.  Both of these use data files that can be quite large and therefore should be kept until no longer needed.  At that point, the project servers are supposed to instruct the boinc client to delete those files that are finished with.  That sometimes doesn't happen - for a variety of reasons.

Files starting with h1_ and l1_ belong to a gravitational wave search.  The O3AS GW search was the most recent one and it finished quite some time ago. There are no current tasks for it so it's likely that the files you have are just 'leftovers' that can safely be deleted.  I'm guessing that perhaps your client wasn't running that search at the time it finished and so wasn't told to delete those files.

The current search is for gamma-ray pulsars and the data files there start with LATeah... so don't delete any of those.  That search will be finishing up soonish and those files (which aren't as extensive) will be removed by your client when the last task is done.  The mechanism is different and there will be no 'leftovers'.

There will be new BRP (Radio Pulsar) seaches starting soon and they will also have different data files that are sent with each task you receive.  Once again, they will be automatically removed once finished with.

Cheers,
Gary.
