    What kind of an impact does the current CUDA app have on the Win7 GUI? I have an extra 8800GS 386mb that I want to use in my wife's comp but I don't want to listen to her b**ch err complain about her desktop acting weird. She only use's her comp for surfing and Facebook games/apps. Would I be able to get away with installing the 8800GS without her noticing?

      Hi!

      I'm sorry but that 8800 GS doesn't have enough RAM to run ABP2 CUDA workunits. At minimum, a 512 MB card is required.

        Thanks, I was afraid of that. I remember seeing the 512mb posted somewhere. Any other projects that I might get by with?

          but you need a double precision card

          which i do not think the 8800 is, i have a 8600gtx which will not work because it only has 256meg ram and single precision

          Have a look on their forums as the various cards are listed discussed etc

          GPUGrid might be another option but i do not use that myself although others do etc

          [edit] by the way cuda on win7 64bit does not noticeably affect the desktop - i even turn down the ram frequency to keep the card cooler again with no noticable effect - this is on a GTX 260b - this is with full aero and two monitors in high res so most of the time she would not notice :)

            Last time I looked, single precision for s@h was fine.

              You're confusing Seti@Home with Milkyway@Home. Milkyway requires double precision math capability on the GPU, Seti doesn't.

                  @Frog: Collatz works on almost anything, I'm running it on two ATI integrated chipset graphics, but they also have a CUDA app. RAM and CPU load is low.

                  @Tim: Well, you might try PrimeGrid CUDA then. *grin* You'll get some nice lags, even on a GTX260. And it keeps you warm, too.
