Hi,

I am crunching 2 WU at a time on an AMD 7750 1GB(stock settings). It takes about 3 hours per unit with a utilization of 80% on the GPU. With only 1 unit I would get around 60% utilization. CPU load is around 15% per work unit (AthlonII X2 ). Just thought I post my results with the new OpenCL client.

Cheers!

crunching on a 7750

Thanks for the feedback.

Well, 1.5h effective crunching time per WU isn't too shabby for a card that (IIRC) consumes less than 75W.

Happy crunching

My i7-2600 host has 2 EAH 5870 GPUs, now used at SETI and MW, both working OK,
after some tuning, cmd-line settings for SETI MB and AstroPulse.

Running WIN 7 64bit and BOINC 7.0.25 (64bit), but I read 7.0.27, is needed?
And if S(ingle)P(recision) is used, I have a host with a
NVidia GTX480 and can add a ATI 5770.

Now that i have got some `other` problems sorted on this pc,
for comparison here is a work unit from my 7970 at factory settings.
One wu at a time,
GPU use was about 40%
Cpu, P4 (skt775 prescot660ht) 30% < 40%
Run time 50 min (2923 second)
Power consumption . . (dont ask :()

Indeed. 7.0.27 (as of today, please recheck when reading this message later :-) :-) is still a development version, but we are expecting an official version >= 7.0.28 real soon (TM).

The ATI 5770 should do a task in (very roughly) 2 hours IIRC.

Now running a HD 7770 and an i3 2120T (Max TDP 35W), and switched to windows7 x64 vs. Vista x64. I notice even between W7 and Vista, is W7 is more efficient at feeding the GPU, gpu load went from 84% to 96%. System is now cruching 2x units in 2:20 or so.

Cheers!

Hi everybody, I recently

Hi everybody,

I recently installed AMD 7750 1GB in my 3 core Phenom 7450 system. http://einsteinathome.org/host/5517686
I had some problems with CAL XP version, so I installed Linux Mint (Ubuntu flavor) on it and new BOINC client with stock settings and no changes to default configuration. So I have no idea what is GPU utilisation. So it runs 3 CPU WU and 1 GPU WU at a time. CPU is busy - vmstat shows 99%, top shows about 90% per WU. It takes about 3 hours to finish GPU WU.
Apparently I need to figure out how to run more than one GPU WU. If anybody can help me with a link to proper info I'd be very happy.

Thanks

To do this, you can go here ==> http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/prefs.php?subset=project and then edit the setting that is marked with the big red "Dangerous": 0.5 means two tasks per GPU , 0.33 three and so on. Note there is a setting for each "venue" configurable in BOINC.

We put in the "Dangerous" remark after we received a report from a volunteer who had a PC with an aparently under-sized power supply. After using this feature, the card would draw more power which pushed the PC "over the top". If your PC has a good power supply and adequate cooling to keep up with the graphics card(s) running close to full load, you should be fine using this feature.

Cheers

Thanks for the

Thanks for the help.

Finally I did it :) I changed GPU tasks amount to 2 (value is 0.5)

Although it is a bit weird. Before the change I had 3 CPU tasks (3 core AMD @2100 MHz) and 1 GPU task. Now I have 2 GPU tasks and 2 CPU tasks. But. The power consumption is same 150 Watts. I run Linux, so I have no such a precise GPU measurement tools - only old school power meter. CPU Time per task increased from ~1300 sec to ~1800 sec while Run Time increased from ~7600 sec to ~7800 sec. Real world time is about 2 hours to 2 hours 10 mins. Will see my new daily numbers...

Older quote, but not quite dead thread: I have a 1GB 5770 in a 1,1 Mac Pro running dual 5150 2.66GHz 2-core processors (total 4 cores), and it can do two concurrent tasks at 75% CPU utilization in about 1 hour 50 minutes each when it's happy. Trying to make it run 3 concurrent tasks makes the card very unhappy.
