I'm new to Einstein, and nursing a new CPU/GPU
platform. It's an AMD Phenom II 965 BE @3.7-3.9Ghz
(depending on how stable I can keep the system.
Core for core, it's just a few percent shy of the
performance of a Core I7 920, for reference. My
GPUs are aging EVGA 8800GT KO's @675Mhz.
I've only done a few Einstein@home workunits, but the
results seem very consistent: each took just over
1.25hrs of CPU time, and earned just under 29 credits,
or about 23 credits per cpu-hour. That's consistent
with other BOINC projects, most seem to be right
around 25 credits/cpu-hour on my cpu's.
However, each einstein task occupies a GPU 100% during
its residency on a CPU. A GPU has 11 times the
floating point computational power of a CPU, and for
Seti at least it can complete 11 WUs in the time
just one completes on a CPU, so it's consistent that
it earns 11 times the credit per hour (it also
consumes 340W at 100% utilization, so a GPU is a
valuable and expensive resource). Do we get credit
separately for the GPU portion? Or does einstein
"rent" my GPU for free? Maybe my workunits weren't
typical? I verified the CPU utilization with task
manager.

Hi and welcome to Einstein@Home!
Actually you got 80 credits per task:
http://einsteinathome.org/host/3460774/tasks&offset=0&show_names=0&state=3
The 29 credits were just the claimed credit, but on Einstein@Home the awarded credit is fixed per workunit, independent of BOINC benchmarks etc.
The ABP2 CUDA app here at Einstein@Home is still in an early stage of its development, and does only part of the processing on the GPU, the rest is done on the CPU. This is the reason that users who have a combination of slower CPU and quite fast GPU are seeing much better speed-ups than users with fast CPUs using a slower GPU.
A new version of the app that will use the GPU to a higher degree is under development. No release date has been set yet.

I have been running the Einstein@Home BOINC program (einsteinbinary_ABP2) for approx. three weeks now. I'm running a MS Windows XP Home Edition Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Processor x86 - Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 10 Genuine Int 801Mhz 32 bit I just had 10 extra GB installed on the hard drive. and am still going through wu's, at least the % cycle goes all theough the task, and begins on a new task but it still shows 0 credits. And I can not figure why this would be. I downloaded it as instructed but am not being awarded the credits as seems routine. Can I request a project manager or tech from Einstein@Home to look into this for me. Perhaps my computer is not completing the wu's somehow. I have not set personal preferences and have left them at default. The Einstein program took me to the team SETI screen as to joining a team so my computer BOINC task is now 50% SETI@Home 50%Einstein@Home. If there is any way I need to claim or request the credits for my computer please advise to and I will watch this thread also. Thank John Fisher

Well, you've got 80 credits so far. That looks about right for your type of machine.
Nope. The scientists working on this project certainly can't give any PC support!
However, you can ask on the forums... ;-)
Well, some have completed ok and you've been credited.
Welcome to the great search!

All WUs are crunched by 2 PCs to validate the result, thus it may take some time until the 2nd one is in. You'll only get credits after this happened (and both results are the same).
BTW: if you still can you might want to delete the mail adress from your post. It will surely be found by automated crawlers (or whatever they're called).

John, your computer has a workunit with a deadline of September 28th. I suggest you do nothing for the moment, but wait until after that date. If the workunit completes successfully, then probably all is well and you should do nothing different. But it may be that with 50% devoted to Seti@home, your computer is simply too busy to do more Einstein@Home work. So please get back in touch after Sept 28, if it appears that no more work has been completed. Note that you may not receive credit for the work until a couple of weeks later, so use the 'My Account' page to see if the work completed OK.
Thanks for contributing!
