We probably shouldn't be hijacking Barry's thread with client discussions. So, I'll start another.

Hi Terry! Good to meet you.
I installed the TruXsoft client but was a bit surprised to see it runs in a command window. Is that right, or did I miss something? Cheers, Tom

If you follow the instructions and simply replace the boinc.exe file, it should run exactly as before.

Here's what I've been up to since yesterday:

I replaced boinc.exe and boinc.dll with the originals and restarted. Couldn't find the client. Found the BOINC download had a repair option so took it. Restarted and 24 results were ready to report. Phew! Back to square one.

Now for TruXsoft one more time... Tom

Well - I did exactly as

Well - I did exactly as asked:

"Stop the running BOINC program or service (depending on the original installation mode), replace the original boinc.exe file in the BOINC directory (typically in C:\\Program Files\\BOINC). You can only replace matching versions of boinc.exe - v5.x by v5.x (no v4.x clients). Keep backup copy of the original file for the case you need to put it back! Copy also all other files in the distribution zip archive (except of the readme files) to the main BOINC directory. Then restart BOINC again."

BOINC started in a Command window, again.

I guess I'll pass on TruXsoft.

Tom

I think you are the only

I think you are the only person that I have ever seen report this. Are you starting bonic.exe or boincmgr.exe? The boincmgr.exe file is the one that you are supposed to be executing, same as before you installed Trux's client.
Boinc.exe is the client.
Boincmgr.exe is the manager.
The manager starts the client.

Well! In five months of einstein@home-ing I've always started boinc.exe. No problems.

I just reinstalled TruXsoft, started boincmgr.exe and I'm up and running!

Thanks Steve! I hang my head in shame...

No need for shame. Shame comes when you have a closed mind and no longer learn. Just glad I could help.

I've just realised that's not true. With the standard BOINC client, only boincmgr.exe has the orange "B" icon. With TruXsoft, its boinc.exe also has this icon.

Hi Terry,
I note here that I've finally managed to overtake you, courtesy of TryXsoft. No hard feelings I trust!

More or less luck of the

More or less luck of the draw. I've been running the optimised app considerably longer than you, so I had a bit of a head start. Now my pending credits are dropping a bit, thus the boost. I don't think it'll hold up. Be patient, it'll sort itself out and you'll get your lead back! Could also be that you got burnt on more of the validate error wu than I did. If so, you'll eventually get credit for them, too.
