When my computer starts a new Einstein run, not always immediately but always with less than 1% completed, the screen freezes and I have to reboot the computer. I've only noticed it happening when the screensaver is showing. Any ideas? Thanks.

computer freezes at start of project

Sorry... I only have a bunch of questions...

Do any other BOINC projects with screen savers cause the freeze?

Are your graphics drivers up to date? Same for DirectX (if Windows)?

Is the video hardware openGL 1.2 compatible?

Are you using the password protect feature with the screen saver?

Can you use one of the regular OS screen savers successfully?

If it's only happening during

If it's only happening during screensaver active times, then don't use a BOINC screensaver. Fun to watch sometimes, but apparently a real hog. My fan used to sound like a jet taking off when the laptop was idle and switched to screensaver.

Thanks for the

Thanks for the response.

1. I'm only running Einstein.

2. Graphics are up to date.

3. Not sure.

4. Screen saver is not password protected.

5. Regular OS screen savers work fine.

First things first. Clean

First things first.

Clean out the dust bunnies and check your temps.

Next, update your client.

Third, gather some information on your graphics hardware.

Run dxdiag (Start - Run - type "dxdiag" (minus the quotes) - enter). Copy the information from the display tab. You can click "save all" and have it generate the entire thing in .txt format and then cut/paste what you need.

I will be honest, graphics is one of my weaker areas, but I have a friend who can also take a look at the information.
