Hello all, My problem

Hello all,

My problem seems to be with my PowerPC macintosh. It seems to have d/l a very heavy amount of work requiring almost 50- 100 hours to complete. The numbers on time to complete keep changing but the remaining hours just don't make sense from earlier. One earlier task that finished ended with a client error. It has been running several weeks, off and on, of course but it has no credit. Tiger X.4.11, iBook laptop.

I thought the machine was overloaded when it had such a great amount of work given it; hence I have turned it on and let it run longer than normal.

Any ideas what is happening? I hate to abort but maybe need to in order to start over. I will look at the machine to check it out for errors.

Best,

Dr. Les

I joined Einstein@Home on

I joined Einstein@Home on 5/27/2008 and have "completed" 22 tasks, all of which ended with a Client State of "Compute Error".
I have been successfully running SETI@home since 5/1/2008 with no problems and have no known problems with my system.
My system is:
Intel Pentium D CPU 3.0GHz with 2 processors
3GB RAM
More than 1TB Disk
Microsoft Windows XP Professional with Service Pack #2
I am running ZoneAlarm Pro as my Firewall. I Have tried running Einstein@Home with the firewall turned off with no improvement.
I have also tried rebooting my PC several times with no effect.

My current Message Loge is listed below:

You are running 4.26 Windows app.
Your exit code is "-1073741819 (0xC0000005)"

As Bernd stated in the first post of this thread :

Quote:

Exit code -1073741819 (0xC0000005): This is the famous "General Access Violation". There a numerous reasons for this error to occur, from hardware problems to graphics drivers and more. Ideally when this happens, the "Windows Runtime Debugger" should start up and write a stack dump to stderr out that helps to further diagnose the problem. If the "Access Violation" is listed in the "*** Dump of the Graphics thread ***", it was almost certainly a problem with the graphics driver. The most common cause for an Access Violation listed in the "*** Dump of the Worker thread ***" shows "houghmap.c:" near the end of the first line of the Callstack. This is a problem that we might be able to do something about, we are currently hunting this. Apparently it only happens on certain machines, it might be related to the data these hosts are processing, but may also be a property of the hardware or other software on the system.

But i can't see any usefull infos in your stderr out.
One interesting thing is some of your WU's crash right at the beginning, others almost at the end.

The "General Access Violation" is usually believed to be associated with the graphics card and/or its driver.
Many people solved it by (re-)installing other drivers for their video card.
Try to re-install DirectX as well. ;)

But it also seem to appear on overcloked systems, or some with CPU voltage to low, or PSU that isn't delivering stable enough Voltages...

Did you try to disable graphics ?
Did you try to update your graphic drivers ?
Did you run a memtest86 to ensure RAM stability ?
Is you system overclocked in any ways ?

Hope someone will come up with an answer for you !

God created a few good looking guys.. and for the rest he put hairs on top..

I have a little problem, 3

I have a little problem, 3 computers running Einstein@home, and today ALL 3 reporting versions of

14/06/2008 1:39:27 AM|Einstein@Home|Scheduler request failed: Error 417

They are unable to upload completed tasks, however many times I update, or close and restart Boinc, or reboot the computer. Keep getting the same messages on all of them. And they are not networked.
What is this problem, why is it and what can I do to fix it?

I also have same problem with QMC, but all other projects working fine.

Nothing you can do about it. At the time of writing this post, everything is red on the server status.

Thanks Jord, when this started, I checked server status and all was green, but they sure are red now! What is error 417 anyway?

BOINC (or more like, the libCurl part in it) uses standard HTTP error messaging.

In a browser you'd get:
Unable to connect to http://servername/ . No server was found at the specified URL. Web Exception: The request failed with HTTP status 417: Unexpected status code.

You can always throw the error in Google and see what it comes up with. In most cases it's something at the project side, though. Accentuated by your report that other projects work fine.

Well, instead of google, I threw the error at Seti@home as I got problems with that one too - response was good:

I could solve a similar problem by switching from htt protocol version 1.1 to version 1.0.
To do so, you must create a text file named cc_config.xml in your BOINC data directory (if it doesn't exist already). The data directory is mentioned in the message tab of BOINC manager (the default is C:\\program files\\BOINC).
With notepad or a similar editor, enter (copy&paste) the following into that file:

1

There are no lower case 'L' characters in that code, only digits '1'. More information to cc_config you can find here.
In BOINC Manager (Advanced view) select menu 'Advanced->Read config file' to activate the new configuration.
Hope that helps.

Gruß,
Gundolf

I did this and it worked a treat to fix everything.

I'm posting this to help anyone else with the same problem.

Thanks

Try resetting the project. And if that fails, try detaching and reattaching.

Those should force you to get new data files.
