Why do I have so many client errors. I just started this month and out of 7 completed results I have 5 showing client error. Four of these are computing. I'm not having this problem with my seti@home work.

From BOINCWiki
Message Type: Error Message
Actually, we geeks call this a "Fatal Error", this means that the whole world comes to an end …
This error can be the result of a programming error in the code for:
The BOINC Client Software
The Science Applications
Any other program running on the computer
The Operating System
On the other hand, it could be because it is Tuesday.

Looks like a hardware or thermal problem. Try reseating or swapping your RAM.
How good is your case cooling? Is the cpu fan OK?

Cheers,
Gary.

This is a new HP tower. No heating problems. I wouldn't try to reseat anything.

I've been running seti@home a month longer and it pretty much runs all the time. Have no problems with it. That is the one I have running more than the einstein jobs.

Thanks

Well, I did find an error in my messages file now for one on 6/16 -- not much help though.

6/13/2005 10:37:43 PM|Einstein@Home|Unrecoverable error for result H1_0857.5__0857.5_0.1_T13_Fin1_1 ( - exit code -1073741819 (0xc0000005))
Then there is any entry that this result is finished.

My cpu finished one job and uploaded on the 13th, had this error and then finished another result and uploaded today. I have seti@home jobs running 2/3 of the time, so these take longer.

Thanks

New machines have a tendency to show the occasional problem early in their life. Those that survive without early problems often go very well for a long time.

Carefully reseating a RAM stick has solved many "intermittent" problems in the past and represents no danger to your nice new box if done with care.
Flakey RAM is a fairly common cause of hardware related problems and should be considered in investigating the ongoing client errors you are seeing.

Your last three client errors were reported as "unhandled exceptions". Did you get some sort of dialog box with "abort", "retry", and "exit" type options or something similar?
If so what did you choose? Another user has reported choosing the "exit" option (if I remember correctly) and then restarting BOINC which allowed
the science app to continue to a successful completion. I'll have a look and see if I can find the particular post.

Edit: It was in the thread whose title was "BOINC Unhandled Exception Error" and the options were "abort", "retry" and "ignore".
He chose the "retry" option which allowed him to exit normally and restart the science app.

Cheers,
Gary.

I was able to get rid of my

I was able to get rid of my "unhandled exceptions" (crossing-fingers, knocking on wood!) by disabling the screen saver. No problems since. This system has an onboard Intel graphics adapter.

Mind you, I miss the sphere. It had a nice "wow!" factor for visitors.
