Hi - newbie post here.

I've been crunching for a few months, and went to the E@Home website to view my reults. To my horror, 90% of my results are listed as "client error"!

Is there something I can do to reduce this error rate?

Here I was thinking I was doing all this work every time my email hesitated - but as it turns out all that woe was for naught! :)

Thanks,

G

Look at the error messages for your results that have failed. A typical error message looks like this

Failed to open checkpoint-file for writing. Exiting.

This indicates a permissions problem: the BOINC client running on your machine can't write to the directory in which BOINC is installed.

http://einsteinathome.org/task/4024194

or maybe at any other result ...

The primary reason is 'Failed to open checkpoint-file for writing. Exiting.' the scondary effect is the exit code.

Hi Again, Bruce, Wurgle et

Hi Again, Bruce, Wurgle et al.

Well, I haven't been able resolve this access problem. I'm running XP pro SP2 on a 3G P4, with BOINC 4.25. I have installed BOINC in different directories, set sharing permissions and security restrictions to minimum on that directory, I'm logged on as an administrator, and still I get errors.

Can anybody help me out here? Does BOINC have trouble with long paths? Should I try it in the c:\ root directory?

Here is the full error (it's always the same):

4.25
- exit code -1073741819 (0xc0000005)

Failed to open checkpoint-file for writing. Exiting.

***UNHANDLED EXCEPTION****
Reason: Access Violation (0xc0000005) at address 0x7C91433A read attempt to address 0x3F80AF24

0: Stackwalker not initialized (or was not able to initialize)!

Thanks,

G

How long is your installation path?
BOINC usually installs fine to C:\Program Files\BOINC
Here is the full error (it's always the same):

4.25
- exit code -1073741819 (0xc0000005)

Failed to open checkpoint-file for writing. Exiting.
What type of installation did you choose? (Standalone/Multi/Service)
If service, does the user running the service have the necessary permission to write to the installation folder and more importantly, the slots\# folder, where # >= 0? Do you even have a slots folder with subfolders? Check for it in the root of the BOINC installation folder, typically C:\Program Files\BOINC\slots

Hi!

I have very similar problem: - exit code -1073741819 (0xc0000005), but I've found it when einsten is cooperating with climatepredict. In that case after "Show graphics" I get that error.

Turning off the screen saver

Turning off the screen saver graphics seems to have worked because I was getting lots of errors on einstien with it on. I have gone thru 2 suceeded units with no trouble.

Oh, I have the 4.25 version of Bionc running with a 2.4ghz intel processor and Win XP sp2.

Well, after shutting down the screen saver is a little better, but not completly. Computing crashing sometimes after switching computation to other project.
