Clean up the forum a bit?

Is it possible to delete old, useless posts from this board, to make it nicer? There are some very old things with no useable information, and some are even sticky!

Is this forum completly without policies or moderation? Please, it is the time to use the broom.

Well Stefan, it may seem that way to you, and I'm quite sure a lot of other people too.  But you haven't been on this forum for long, at all.

There are people who do use much of the "old, useless posts" that seem to annoy you.  We have many people in this forum, and others (all told - 4M+ users, not just hosts) that rely on doing what you think is a bit "old" & "outdated" & "useless".  So...  give us a break.  Will you?

.....[EDIT].....

Oh, and yes, the forums are WITH policies and moderation.  Please read below.

And we do have many scientists who regularly use BOINC from many different countries.

One last thing:  If you have comments about the policy or its enforcement, email

Yes I forgot about Mike Hewson, I knew there was another one but haven't recognized his posts in awhile.

Mike Hewson usually posts in the Science forums.

You can find lots of very

You can find lots of very useful information, even in years old threads. I'd strongly vote against removing old threads only because they are old. Dead threads get shuffled down the page, later to following pages with new ones suppressing them out of (first) view. But you can still search them, explore them, dig through them. Sometimes this resurfaces useful very old posts.

As an example, some month ago, I forwarded a useful post which I found deep down at the bottom of the forum, which was then nine years old.

But I have to admit that the guys here crash this thread with a dozen of quotes of quotes of quotes of full text quotes. This doesn't help to make it nicer here.

Hi Scrooge, I happen to be

Hi Scrooge,

I happen to be one of those guys that "crash this thread with a dozen of quotes of quotes of quotes of full text quotes".  And I'll admit, it definitely is not the best way to do it.  But, I will say that it is sometimes helpful for others to get an idea or concept of what the post is about, especially when they are infrequent users of the forums and choose not to dig deeper to find out what the post is about.

As an alternative, I do realize that we could put a link into our posts so that people could easily follow the concept if so, but I don't think too many people will either want to do that as it takes more effort and also many people would not actually click on the link to find out what it was about.

I know, even this is a bit longer than what I would like.  But I realize also that the many people who are reading this (and other forums) are from different parts of the world and may not be aware of the "what's" and "why's" and "how to's" to find out.

I can't speak for anyone else, but there may be a few here who can add their opinions.
