Hi Byron, I have not

Message 87009 in response to message 87008

Hi Byron,

I have not thought of doing that, but it seems to me that it would an act of desperation. While I admit I not an expert in these matters, it seems that this would be a LONG shot to cycle the video card socket. Since all other video aspects of my system are operating fine, I'll just accept this for now. And besides, it is not like I am not contributing to E@H, it's just the screen saver is being a pest.

Temps are fine...the chasis is nearly as clean as it was when I purchased it new. So, I guess this will just have to be unresolved for now. Ohhh, I might cycle the video card socket, and if that works, I'll post ASAP. Thanks for all the help.

Hi MMCC,

Saw this post in another thread, I tend to agree with you

No luck with the graphics unfortuately. I think I am about to thrown in the towel on this one...

It would seem to be that or a less attractive task of uninstalling the video card and reinstalling it and so on with no better chance of success.

How's the new opti app going? Are the temps still in a comfortable range?

I upgraded to BOINC 6.4.5 from 6.2.19 and that seems to have helped. My new computer hit a few bumps at first, but that was the one where I installed the new version from scratch. On my XP machine that is similar to yours, I had no issues with the upgrade and the screensaver is working correctly again. In fact the project actually communicates with the screensaver now, so the task completion percentage displayed is increasing like it is supposed to. Gasp! It hasn't done that in ages. It may or may not help in your case, but it seems like a better shot than fishing around in your computer for random fixes. Here's the download link: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php

Hi Mary,

Thanks for the update. I'm not sure what the difference would be in the screensaver portion of 6.4.5 from 6.2.19, (maybe someone else on here knows?) but I'm very glad to hear that it could potentially have something that does fix the problem.

I've got 6.4.5 on one of my systems but have been testing the new CUDA app at Seti and haven't had a chance to try the screesaver portion for Einstein yet. I'm going to have to check that out.

Thanks again.
